( there should be an 'Earl Rule' implemented in tournaments-No forfeiting during a match and No raking the balls )

What are you gonna do, disqualify him:confused:

Rules ? We Don't Need No Stinkin Rules

Has anyone heard why he quit. Was he mad at himself for missing shots, or was the crowd to loud or was he upset with something Mike did? If anyone has a clue, I would like to hear it.

I only know the following as a friend heard it directly from Mike:
Earl was making some disparaging comments to Mike [I do not know what he said] and Mike eventually responded with "Shut the .... up!". Shortly thereafter, Earl quit.

Now everyone who knows Mike, knows he is a gentleman at the table. I can only conclude that he must have been provoked to respond like that. I've never heard Mike curse at an opponent while playing.

Hopefully we can get the whole story from Mike who posts here occasionally.

This bad incident is exactly why I think it was a huge gamble on the part of The Action Report to include Earl in their matches. With Earl, everything can be going along seemingly well and then, out of the blue, something sets him off.

He should have been in great spirits, having won the one-pocket tournament. A great achievement! Why couldn't he keep those positive vibes going?!?

the one-pocket event was after the fact.

It will be hard to get live reports from this tournament, I went two years ago with a friend to the nine ball and there is no room for spectators and the locals have tall chairs set around the table area with there name on the chair. If you get a chair you can't get up and take a leak all day long without a friend to sit over both chairs, luckily my fat a$$ covers two chairs easily. So what i mean is there is no room for a laptop inside and if you go outside to post your standing strecthing behind someone in your seat when you return. Sure was fun with Kiefer there though and Ow Yea Congrats to easy e on the lifelong commitmant.--Leonard

That answers the question of "is he going to quit or not." I'm not betting the SBV vs ES match now. Johnnyt

i think the bet is: will earl finish or not? i'll lay 6 to 5 that he dosent finish.

3 days and all those games? I would be amazed if he did go the distance. Johnnyt

I just got word from the tournament director that Earl continued talking while Mike was playing/shooting - Mike asked him to please be quiet - apparently Earl did not like that and a few words were exchanged, causing Earl to leave angry. either way, Mike is playing Shaun Wilkie tomorrow at 3pm and Earl and Johnny Archer are locking horns as we speak.

Bumping this thread hoping for more news... since there's none on the home page.. and no brackets. Disappointing.

thats why i'm ofering you 6 to 5 cheap, i dont want to insult Actionreport earl etc. but i would like a small sweat bet on this one.

since azhousepro is moving, the article did not get posted last night. here is a recap:

Josh Roberts sent Johnny Archer to the one-loss side 11-9 - At 9-9, Roberts finished out the rack to bring the score to 10-9. Then, breaks and attempts a nine-ball combo which he missed allowing Archer back to the table on the one ball. The shot was very basic, but Archer somehow managed to miss, giving Roberts another chance at the table where he finished the match with a run out.

there are (i think this was it) Earl, Johnny, and Gabe on the one-loss side only at this time - the locals and other regional players are working through the brackets - last night late Johnny beat Russell Howard 11-0 after running 7 racks off the stat; Earl beat Peaches Fuller 11-5

the top names will start knocking each other over at 3 pm today - Louis Ulrich v. Sparky Ferrell, Mike Davis v. Shaun Wilkie, Alex Kopel v. Robb Saez; and Josh Roberts v. Mike Fuller

play will continue on Saturday until they get down to eight or at least that is the plan.

you are most welcome, but I am a girl :o

just got word the tournament is down to 16 players. a great match going on is Earl and Johnny - wish I was a fly on that wall. the 17th-24th place finishers are Wade Crane, Charles Jones, Champ, Alex Kopel, Richie Richeson, Elvis Bostic, and Sparky Ferrell. should have more updates in about two hours.

So they didnt DQ Earl for quitting that set, if he wins the tournment the Action Challenge will be interesting against SVB, SVB will have his hands full, it will be a great match. The line will move alot depending on what earl does in the weeks to come.

FB, if you're still interested, I'll put up $50 to your $60 that Earl goes the distance. Now, if it's something like SVB has 98 to Earl's 60, and Earl concedes the last game or so, then that to me is the same as going the distance. Also, if for some reason they never even START the match, then the bet is off. Let me know, old buddy.

Doc

well, everyone's favorite Earl Strickland is knocked out - he took 13th-16th with Larry Faulk, Mike Fuller, and Mike Gullessey. on the winners side, they are down to four players, Robb Saez, Louis Ulrich, Shannon Daulton, and Robert Ray. should have more updates around midnight.

since i am not sure if azhousepro will be able to update the home page tonight, here is the latest: the winners side is listed above and the final four on the one-loss side are matched up for tomorrow Johnny Archer v. Mike Davis and Chuck Altomare v. Gabe Owen. the field is down to the final eight and will have matches start on Sunday at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m., 10 p.m.

so far, here are the results:
9th-12th ? Shaun Wilkie/Brandon Ashcraft/Josh Roberts/Craig Wolfe
13th-16th - Earl Strickland/Larry Faulk/Mike Fuller/Mike Gullessey
17th-24th ? Wade Crane/Charles Jones/Champ/Alex Kopel/Richie Richeson/Elvis Bostic/Sparky Ferrell

it is a great ending to a great tournament - best of luck to all involved, but i have to say i am very happy to see Chuck Altomare still hanging out with the big boys - this kid has such potential.
