Carpet size

What size carpet do you have under your 9x4/1/2 regulation table.
I need to buy a rug and would like to know what most size people use.

depends on the size of the base of the table. Do you want the carpet to stick out far enough to be walked on while playing?

I have standard house carpet in the room where my table is. If I could, I would much rather have wood flooring with no rugs.

Problem with is on the wood floor, there is a echo throughout the house.
Anyone know if a rug just under the table would quiet the sound?

I like to keep it trimmed up generally. Regular maintenance doesn't take long, and it always makes things look better in that area.

Oh, wait ... you meant ACTUAL carpet? I thought you meant something else :p

My table's inside my garage and I bought cheap carpet from HD to place under my 4.5' x 9' table.

I'm guessing that I bought a piece that was ~10' x 15', which gives ~30" (or 2.5') of carpet around the perimeter of the table on which to walk and stand while shooting.

I'll measure it when I get home this afternoon.

Guess that it's bigger than I remember... as it looks to be almost square.

Most carpet is going to be 12 or 15 wide so go to your local flooring store and get you a piece 12 x 15 and tell them you want it bound around the edges so it doesn't raveling on the edges.

Not sure a rug under the table would do any good....

Perhaps if you carpeted around the table....Perhaps smaller rugs strategically placed around the room....Is there a sofa or chairs nearby?...rug under them...

You could also do the half up the wall carpet. or maybe a big wall mural rug or something like that....

Heck you could just hang any rug on the wall temporarily to see if it has any effect.

Just some ideas....

I have wall to wall. The wall is 5 ft away from the table along 2 sides and there are a few times that my foot is against the wall. Considering that I would think at least 5 ft on each side of the table.

The easiest way is to take your stance with a rail shot and see where your rear foot is. This would be the extreme.

12' x 17' is what I have... and it's perfect.

Nominally, I have 4 feet past the edge of the table all around.

I've always thought, in general, that your table should not sit on carpet. I've always thought that a harder surface was better for your table. I'd put this in the "talk to a mechanic" section and see what they have to say about it.

Carpet comes in 12' and 15' widths so one option is to go to your local carpet wholesaler and find out what carpet is on clearance (it may have a stain, be an off color, or be the end of a large roll) They can then bind the edges and you will have a custom size carpet. Binding usually runs 1-1.5 dollars a linear foot. 12 foot goods give you roughly 3.5' of carpet on either side of the table and 15' goods will give you roughly 4.5' on either side. A 12x16 or a 15x18 will give the same amount of carpet around your table. Or you could carpet the room and you can have padding under your carpet too.
