date conflicts

I love to see more tournaments - especially One Pocket,

It seems when someone wants to do an event, there is often date conflicts. There are just not enough weekends in the year! This event does conflict with the dates that Barry Behrman just announced for the Masters 10-Ball (March 1-5). This was just put up as an AZ press release.

Hopefully the promoters can work together to eliminate the date conflicts since there will be several players that wish to play in both.

I also want to announce what we are doing at the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships.

CSI will be bringing back the US OPEN ONE POCKET event. $300 entry, at least $10,000 added (limited to either 32 or 48 players). This is the 11th time of this prestigious event and we are making this an annual event from now on. Held May 13-15, 2011 (Fri-Sat-Sun).

This is immediately before the US OPEN 10-BAll Tournament that will be May 16-21,2011. This will probably be limited to 96 players.

A lot more info will be released in next week or so, but wanted to let everyone know what is going on.

In addition, BCAPL is adding several 9-ball competitions for the 7,000 amateur players that show up.

Much more to come--

It is great to see the return of the US 1P Open. Saw some great matches at the old events in Kalamazoo. These dates though do conflict with the World 10 Ball Championships in Manila (http://www.wpa-pool.com/index.asp?content=cal2011). Couldn't the event be held simultaneously with the US Open 10 Ball? Maybe most of the 1P players wouldn't have been at the Manila event anyways, except for the Pinoys.

Us open one pocket

David,

Yes the US OPEN ONE POCKET will be at the Riveira also.

Here is basically what is happening.

The World Pool Masters will not be held at the Riviera like the llast two years. It was a great event however, because of their special requirements (filming etc) they decided it could be more economical to do elsewhere.

We are bringing back the One Pocket. It is planned to be a Fri-Sat-Sun event. 8 tables. This will be be an annual event. Probably limited to 32 - but possible go to 48 (which might cause event to go to Monday).

One day break and then into the US OPEN 10-Ball.

In between the two, the Grand Master singles - 7' bar table 8-ball. Now these champions can play in up to 3 events.

We have a lot going on and hope everyone can come see us.

BTW - you are right.
SBE (Valley Forge) is March 10-13, 2011.
Derby City is Jan 21-29, 2011.
US Bar Table is Feb 21-27, 2011 in Reno
Jay Swanson 9-Ball is Feb 12-13, 2011 in LA
Turning Stone is Aug 11-14, 2011

Joe;

I have been told, the dates on the WPA calendar are wrong. They even have our dates wrong and we have had them reserved for several years. They just put down 'some dates' for Makabenta if he does another event.

I have heard they will fix the calendar. The problems arose when they changed the calendar format.

Please notice the dates are not colored - meaning they are not firm at all. I believe Makabenta will have to post to have another world event.

Our 10-Ball is BCA points event - so the WPA usually try to avoid the date conflicts.

I sure do wish there was one place to have tournament dates - and to know which ones are really going to happen. OURS WILL HAPPEN AND THE MONEY WILL BE PAID!

Thanks for the comments. Please note that this will become an annual event!

Thanks for the response. That's great there won't be a scheduling conflict. Yeah, they need one place with updated calendars from the WPA, US, EPBF, and Asia.

Sounds like 2 great one pocket tournaments coming up, Mark I will try to be in attendance for this. I will have to talk to Mr. Frosty and see if he is going, if he is not then I will play instead and nobody wants that including me.

What do yall think about the 4th 5th and 6th of February?I know this is only 6 days after the derby But we are gonna have to put this event somewhere..If these players are heading west for the Jay swanson and US bar table then Houston is just a stop in between..There is just so many tournaments goin on and no where to put it..Ha ha Your right Mark..Not enough dates....

This will be a great event. I was at Caspers this past weekend and it is a 1st class venue.

The person organizing this event, Denis Strickland, is all about the action and catering to the top players. Denis was also one of the BEST at a players auction when he did them for the Houston Open.

Can't wait for this one!

He's not picking that weekend again because he found out (last Feb) that doing it so close to Derby affected the turn out instead of helping it. It was also Super Bowl weekend.

Hope Casper's gets a full field and doesn't run into the same reasons to not fill the 64 as Gabe did.

Those were considerations for sure but Jim Mcdermott selling Magoos also came into play.

T-Town WAS a success. 47 TOP players, a huge rail, vendors that did well.

Gabe is looking at September'ish for the next T-Town or (?)-Town.

I think many players like having back to back tournaments. I believe there are LOTS of players in the Houston area that will attend for sure. Sylver is down there building a "one pocket" army doing lessons almost daily!

Denis is securing spots for the top players before he opens it up, which I think is a great idea.

Ray

ps. missed you down in San Leon Trig! Hope Mom is doing well.

I meant (which I obviously didn't state well because of your interpretation), that Gabe thought he would get more players and the reasons I stated above were why he thought the attendance could have been better. Yes - it was a very big success! (for all the reasons you mentioned).

I was just passing all that on to help the Casper's tourney as lessons learned.

My Mom is not doing well, but thank you.

Sorry to hear about Mom. :(

Unfortunately there aren't many dates available. If you have a recommendation on a date, Denis would like to hear it.
