Center Pocket Music, the long-awaited CTE Pro One book, by Stan Shuffett.

Yes...Butler Books
There is no record of Stan's book on their website. My guess is that Stan paid them to edit and print his book, not publish it. A publisher pays the author an advance (maybe not always) and also a royalty. The publisher takes on the project to produce and then advertise the book because they see a potential profit. No knock on Stan, but it's hard to make much profit on a topic like this.

Bingo. Stan said he was delayed for over a year by his publisher so I would have to bet that there was one and it was not self-published (aka "vanity publishing"). I thought it might be the same as Mark Wilson's. The book is only available on Stan's website, which I find odd.
A vanity press, vanity publisher, or subsidy publisher is a publishing house in which authors pay to have their books published. ... While a commercial publisher's intended market is the general public, a vanity publisher's intended market is the author and a very small number of interested members of the general public.

Butler has 2 employees.

From their website:
Q: How much does it all cost?
A: Printing cost is wildly variable based on a combination of volume, page count, trim size, paper type, printing method, binding style, "bound-books" deadline, transportation cost (all books have to transport from the printer to us), and a host of other things. Because of this, we cannot give you even a "ballpark" figure until we know a lot of things about your book and then request a quote from an appropriate printer using those specs.

Butler charges for services. They sub out the printing. The author pays Butler for services rendered.

Looks like they do self-publishing.

Stan is not in this for the money believe me. It goes much much deeper then that.
Well there's two ways to make money when selling something. High margin, for expected low sales...., or low margin, with expected high sales.

If my short memory serves, the book is selling for $100...? ...and there's a specialty cue ball for another ~$30..? Together or separate the item prices don't change.

Forgetting about the validity of the content, you can't expect a million book sales from something so niche. You also can't believe it takes $100 to print a copy of that book and bring it to market. There's money being made, and it's worked into the price. Good on him, I hope he does well.

My unbiased opinion is that Stan isn't trying to get rich off this book. The likely math doesn't support that logic. Until he starts accepting donations to the "Church of CTE" I don't think there's anything nefarious going on...lol. The man just has some content he believes people would be willing to spend money for.

Actually, "vanity publishing" is when a writer pays a publisher to publish their material.

A traditional publisher does not require writers to purchase their own books. A vanity publishers capitalizes on writers who want to see their work in print. These types of "publishers" make their money up front by having the writers buy x amount of books. It's zero risk for the publisher, 100% guaranteed money. Instead of selling the books for the writer, they simply print them and the writer buys them and sells them on their own.

That's why self publishing has become the norm for small market niche material where traditional publishers don't see much profit to be made. Having a vanity publisher is simply paying a middle man to do the same thing a self published writer typically does on their own, with the exception of buying all the books that get printed. But there's nothing wrong with that if you have the money to purchase the books and the time or platform to sell them.

Why do you freaking care about the publisher. Guess what no matter HOW a "book" is printed it is still a book.

OF COURSE THERE WOULD NEVER BE ANY ESTABLISHED KNOWN PUBLISHER WHO WOULD PUBLISH SOMETHING SO SPECIALIZED, HIGHLY TECHNICAL, and SUPER NICHE like Stan's work here.

Of all the way to knock Stan that have been tried this one is the silliest. Oh and the ISBN # isn't a major thing that only authors who go through established presses have. Any self-published author can get isbn registration for their work.

Yep....ISBN's can be purchased by anyone. I purchased several for future use.

Their obsession with how the book was published is freaking hilarious.

Obsession? The book release was delayed for over a year, maybe two due to the publisher, which is really the editor/printer for Stan. It's more a point of interest after years of secrecy.

So did you buy a book? NO you didn't even though you are so dam worried how long it took. Why would it even matter how long it took.
By the way, you forgot to mention Covid happening during the delay. Did you investigate to see if that had anything to do with the delay.

Serious question for anyone who has the book...

Does it contain any pool instruction or lessons other than CTE? Just curious, If so, I'm sure it's a good resource even for those not interested in learning CTE. Stan has a great video on the grip and stroke action. I'm wondering if he was able to fit stuff like that into the book.

You know, Brian, it's starting to feel like all of the air is finally out of the balloon. Nobody really gives two little hoots about "cte" anymore, do they?

Boxcar, you ae always late to the story. We have our own social media group, approaching 1000 members, to discuss CTE. Nobody gives a hoot about CTE on AZ anymore. We just stop by to see you all wasting your life.

Weren't we supposed to play some sets? How come you never got back to me on that? Are you scared, cause that would be ok. Just say you're scared and it's no big deal.

It's my morning entertainment. The funny pic/gif thread, where you take a LOT of heat from others, and the aiming forum. It's just plain fun, or should i say it used to be. Most of the participants just don't have it anymore.
