CHALK - are these really better than Master Chalk?

cfrandy says that Balabushka chalk is re-labeled Blue Diamond chalk: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=3463270&postcount=22

I can neither confirm nor refute that.

I can refute that... Under magnification alone you can see a difference....

Unconfirmed sources also name Tweeten as the actual maker of Blue Diamond and the Balabushka as being made overseas... The is also a rumor the Morakami chalk is Balabushka labeled to get by their required MSRP.......

I have not seen the Morakami and cannot analyze it to offer up opinions nor can I state that the countries of origin are correct....

Rain-Man once responded to a post I make in one of his threads about this. I tried to find it, but it's back there a while.

Anyway, he says Blue Diamond is in fact manufactured by Tweeten and that Balabushka is a totally different formula that is manufactured overseas.

Rain-Man sells a lot of chalk of different flavors.

He took some pictures of Blue Diamond and Balabushka showing how they transferred to his finger tips -- the difference is obvious.

Perhaps he'll chime in here...

I tried Balabushka and Morakmi. Seems quite identical honestly.

yeah

Nothing anyone tells you is of much real value - it really only matters what you feel works well for you.
I use Kamui chalk.
Is it expensive? Hell yes. Do I say it's the best? Wouldn't bother.
Do I like it? Yep.

I've heard people hate on the price and it astonishes me. If you had a big muscle car you would want good gasoline for it. The only reason I don't use it is because its not for sale anywhere I go and I stay busy. When I did...yeah it was great.

I recently acquired a cube of Predator. Previously I had been using Masters.

I like it. It does seem to give the impression of a minor bit more "grip". Note I said that it gives me the impression of that...

I'm not nearly good enough to be able to determine such a thing. And that's really the point. Just as when I started using a glove, the point to me is that any small thing that I can control, eliminates that one small detail from becoming an issue.

If wearing a glove allows me to eliminate the cue sticking or catching on my hand, then it allows me to stop thinking about that, even subconsciously. Same with the chalk. If using a brand of chalk makes the player feel that it is helping them get a better, albeit slight, grip on the cue ball when shooting, then it is in fact helping them. If only in their mind. And so much of this game is played in your mind....

I have developed a liking for Tweeten's Triangle chalk and I do prefer it over Masters... It feels finer and goes on with little effort. I do keep a cube or two in my case at all times, but I'll only bust that out at a pool hall if the Masters cubes they have there have deep holes, or if the pool hall has a generic brand I've never heard of or don't like...

I can tell a difference chalking up the cue and gently rubbing my finger across the cube, Triangle is a bit finer.... Now, as to how much (if at all) it helps my game, that's another story...

Just wondering why Triangle chalk seldom gets mentioned in threads like these.

The dryer types of chalk usually don't adhere to the tip as good as the more pasty types of chalk.
The dowside with the pastier type is that they make more mess.
The Predator chalk is nice, sticks well and is reasonably priced, but your hands and shaft will be smurf blue after a few hours!
Kamui is hype and i hate the light blue colour that leaves marks on every thing!

You got that right.
I use it and miscues are almost gone. And you have to clean the cue ball once in a awhile.

Now that I have a Ki-Tech soft tip and the Predator chalk the miscues have disappeared.
I honestly have not miscued in over a month.
And I spin the cue ball a lot.

Thought

I have been using Blue Diamond for 2 years. I just had new cloth put on my table an thought I would try Master chalk again to cut down on chalk dust. I can't believe how much cleaner my cloth an even cue ball are. I have a fair stroke so no more are less miss cues. :)

I would have thought the Blue Diamond would have been the cleaner chalk. It was my understanding that it stayed on the tip better then the Master chalk. Is the Master your using the pre flag ?

chalk

1. Ball Teck
2. Blue Diamond
3. Magic Chalk- when available

That is the chalk we can all agree on (lol)

when leaving the masters family

What's the scoop on Cosmo chalk. Saw it in a 'what's in the case' episode.

Anyone have experience with it, and an opinion?

ps: have used magic chalk, liked it, but did not find it to be magic.

This x 10.

I use blue masters. That's what I like.

except that you don't need to chalk much. Posted before how I shot 57 full shots chalking only once, and that included full table draw shots. yes, we know folks have a pre shot routine, but when you are practicing drills, I prefer not to chalk every few shots... thus it takes quite a few racks before I need to chalk again dong drills :)

Triangle is the chalk of choice of most snooker players the world over. Has to be green though. I don't like the Masters and I haven't (and don't intend to) try the others. Triangle does exactly what I expect every time, every cube, no need to experiment. I have tried Masters as it is so readily available, but after just a short time, my cue ball looks like a bar room cue ball, even Masters green. With Triangle, the cue ball just needs the occasional rub to maintain its pristine condition.

ive been using triangle chalk for years now. based on my experience, it is the best chalk for the tip that i use (pressed emerald) on my player. it is also the chalk i use for my phenolic break tip. it's "stickier" than your usual masters, so it chalks up hard tips well.
when i use my other shaft with a pressed triangle tip, i use a blue diamond. i also use this on pressed elkmaster.

here's my stock. i buy in dozens. notice i havent touched any of the masters. :)
note: the chalks at the bottom are what you'll see inside my case. the pre-flag, i dont use it - it doesnt stick well. LOL

has anyone here tried a red masters chalk? notice that it's softer than the regular blue chalk?

I heard some where that making different colors (pigment, oils, etc,.) will make them defferent.
Personally, I use Masters Brown so the shafts don't turn blue, look more natural, and I don't have to clean them as much. It applies nice and holds onto the tip well. If it didn't, I wouldn't be using it and go back to using blue. JMHO..

i know some folks who just do not care about chalk. To them chalk is chalk is chalk.

Then i know players who are extremely chalk sensitive. They not only carry a specific brand in their pocket, but it has to be worn down to a certain level to be game ready. And they never leave it on the table where another player may pollute the cube with foreign chalk.

I know players who actually humidify their chalk before they play it, and actually feel to be at a disadvantage if they do not have their special blend of chalk and moisture.

There are only two reasons to explain this wide discrepancy among players.

1) people who are chalk sensitive are catering to a psychological condition.

2) people who are chalk sensitive are able to determine a difference in the hit depending
on the brand of chalk.

Anyways you all know who you are.

I will play with any chalk but i prefer the balabushka brand, followed by blue diamond and then masters.

I can tell the difference too. I have never done this but i would be willing to bet on it.

Masters hits the hardest, blue diamond softens the hit and adds some spin, and balabushka hits the softest and transfers the greatest amount of spin.

I find that masters and blue diamond have about the same adhesion while balabushka has much more adhesion that either masters or blue diamond.

I cannot comment on kamui because i have never used it and do not plan to.

So there you have it. Different strokes for different folks, i guess we all have to find our own.

Good luck.
