Chalk gate at the open !!!!

Jump sticks should be allowable. I mean for years in golf playing a stymie helped you win the hole in match play
unless your opponent spun or jumped over your ball that had to be at least 6” distant from the opposing ball or the obstructing ball had to be lifted and marked. A lot of greens got messed up from playing a wedge on a green to jump
over an opponent’s ball. In tournaments, the cloth will get burned from jump shots but it’s inconsequential to the match’s outcome. If you had to jump a ball in golf, why not pool? I’ve played lot of 3 cushion so I don’t ever play a jump shot.

It's frustrating to no longer be the dominant player you once were.

These tournaments see balls and tables- new ones- cleaned after each match. The cumulative effect of chalk buildup isn't there.
But man, those that dog it or just can’t gin it like they used to, they’ve got more excuses than a fool going to jail. Personal accountability is at an all time low at this point in history.

Jump cues are here to stay and never going away...if for no other reason than the cue companies are, what, half of the sponsorship money in the game?

That said, I feel strongly that jump cues should NOT be allowed in the Philippines Open or the Reyes Cup. Memorialize those events in a way that is unique to Efren & the Filipino game, where the best kickers in the world live and play every day

I think someone should produce a “Get Off My Lawn Open” for the AZ curmudgeons:

No jump cues
Old Gold Crown Tables
Only Master chalk
No Carbon Fibre
Green cloth
Centennial Balls with the traditional colours - Purple 4b
Hand rack for your opponent
One on the spot

What else am I missing?

no pool jerseys – they should play in suits like harold worst and willy mosconi
no gloves
no air conditioning

Remember that at one time, the World Straight Pool Championship Final was scheduled in large hotel ballrooms
(afternoon or evening match) across the nation in different cities in a race to 2500 between the last two standing
opponents. The player attire was often black tie and seemed almost lavish with spectators similarly well dressed &
quiet as if in church until a new rack or a impressive shot by either opponent. It was well behaved audience & players.

Most readers are not nostalgically interested in pool but I find the past fascinating since I grew up during the Golden Era of pool in NYC which became the powerhouse of sports fans post WWII …….Jolting Joe DiMaggio. I saw it unfold before my eyes in person rather than pages in a book. Pool was different after the Great Depression but during, it was a place to hang out and not have to spend any money like Barber shops became. History is our teacher though some still ignore warning signs. Others recognize there is a pattern to history of civilization and the variables that energize and promulgate change, sadly both good and bad, remain pretty constant throughout time so we should learn from it.

Anyway, here is a bit of history most readers would likely be unaware of. It was a Herculean test of whom was the best straight pool player in the world. And this was on 5x10 pool tables which many readers have never played on and it is a much harder game than a 9’. With this format, it seemed like Willie Moscini was invincible. Imagine racing to 2500 points instead of 7,9, 11, 15, 20 racks…..OMG……this was the truest, fairest test of the best 14.1 player in the world.
