Jay, I started a little game thread in Onepocket.org. You have to name ten known players that I never gambled with. I would get a kick if you tried your hand at it. One guy already did it, but he has some kind of encyclopedia of pool players. I'd like to take a shot at the encyclopedia that is your mind and memory.

I don't have no "encyclopedia of pool players" :). I do have hundreds of magazines and books on pool that I almost know by heart. And, I don't watch or follow football, baseball, basketball or hockey. The only sport I follow is pool. I've been collecting info on the great players since I was 11 years old. I'm 48 now. Besides going to church, my family, friends and working, I spend a lot of time playing pool and reading about and researching the great players. This is my only hobby. And I feel like we have the greatest sport on earth to participate in, replete with a host of colorful characters who we can't seem to get enough of. That's why many of us so enjoy reading posts written by you, Grady, Jay, Jerry Forsythe and others who lived what we now read about.,

Wow what a list of names there, I have seen alot of those guys in Vegas and Hardtimes, some I had forgotten their names, it woke up some memories, great thread!!!! all the top players wow.

I didn't see Filipino Gene Ventura on your list. Did you match up with him?

Very impressive list (especially as I'm assuming that you recall beating each and every player on the list).

I notice that George Breedlove is on the list. Can you recall some details for the Indy crew? Was it before or after he became a monster player?

If anybody beat me, I would chase them until I beat them at least once.
When I played George he was just starting to blossom and I was just starting to fade.

If any player thinks they can match that list, let him speak now.

Heya Freddy!

I noticed on your players list on onepocket.org that you played Rusty Brandymeyer. Rusty runs the MO 8 league here in St. Louis and is a really good guy, but I never got to see him play when he was at the top of his game (it was before I started playing.)

Anyways, I'd love to know how you guys played, what you guys played and how it came out. I've always heard he played really good banks years ago, but I'd love to hear from someone who actually played him in his prime and who could maybe share a couple of new stories I might not have heard around these parts.

Rusty played a monster speed of banks in the early 80s. He was giving out 9 to 7 to all the good players that didnt specialize in banks. He came to my joint North Shore Billiards and ran into a few buzzsaws. Johnny Boy Skinner, Howard the Coward, Romberg, Piggy Banks, Tony Brewer, etc. He had never seen so many good bankers in one place. We wound up not even playing because Johnny Boy beat him and Buddy Hall, and I beat Johnny Boy. He was broke, disheartened and discouraged by then. But he did have a good run.

Sorry Gunn, but I serve two masters, and I am loyal to AZforums and Onepocket.org. both. I try to provide equal time to each. The "name the player" thread was concocted by myself and Steve Booth, the administrator of Onepocket.org. I posted this thread here, only to alert Jay Helfert, in order to acquire his input on the Onepocket.org thread. I will reply to any posts on this thread too, however.

Like I said, I knew he played good banks in his hay-day, but I was never quite sure how he had matched up against everybody else.

Bill Rowsey is correct spelling, and James Christopher is on Freddies list.

Ever run into Joe "Mexican Joe/Cheyenne Joe/Little Joe" Villalpondo?

How about Rodney Flenoi?

Both in Quad. Cities area now, but I know both were road players in their day.

I'll post the same on one-pocket forum as soon as I get activated.
