Championship Vs. Simonis

I am having a use gold crown installed this weekend and have a choice on cloth which one do you recommend, please explain?
For used gold crowns is there anything I should watch out for?

They used championship down at the hall for a while. It seemed to wear better and was slightly faster than the simionis. Unfortunately, most others didn't feel that way - there's definitely some racism and bigotry when it comes to pool felt. Seems like the Harley(simonis) guys, usually, get their way. They're both excellent cloth - so's Granito.
 
I have the championship cloth on my table at home, and when I go to have it recovered I will use Championship cloth again. It plays great, has worn very well and cost a little less than Simonis.

That being said I really dont think it matters, they are both great cloths and play very similar.

Just make sure when they say Championship cloth that they are talking about the tour series.

I concur, Woody. I have Championship on my GC4 and will probably replace it with the same. It has worn well and plays well.
 
Simonis is way overated... Champ 30/30 is the way to go. I have given Simonis a chance on two tables once on a 8 ft then on a 9ft, after a month of play/practice the table got soooo many burn marks. My Championship 30/30 is about 6 mths old and looks better and plays better than Simonis.

Simonis is way too slow...
 
Well the pool hall i frequent, re-clothed all thier 7ft valley's with the Brunswick Centennial, which i have heard they are calling the Championship cloth now.

The 7ft tables was re-clothed last yr in June, and have stood upto the wear n tear pretty good. The 7ft tables do get the most play, so they obviously have some burn marks on them, but still play very good.

About 3 or 4 weeks ago, they re-clothed two 9ft Medalists, one with Simonis 860 and the other with Championship. And they get about the same amount of play on them too. Now over all i cant really tell the difference in the way they play. But WOW, it does make playing on a 9ft alot easier :)

I myself if i had my own table, i would go with Simonis 860 100%
 
I have had Simonis 860 on both of my 9 foot tables (Ohlhausen for 2 years and GCIV for 1 year - both tables getting probably 2 hours a day of play and sometimes a lot more). The first table I brushed and vacuumed every day or two. After 6 months it looked very worn, and after 2 years looked very, very worn (though still played decent). My new table has been wiped down with a damp, lint-free cloth every day; and after 1 year it looks GREAT and plays like new; does not look worn at all. I have also tried the Quik-Clean system; but it does not take out the deep chalklines as well as the damp cloth.

I've played on both Simonis and Championship - I think they are similar, but the angle off the rail is a little sharper off the Championship - it seems to grab a little more - I think the trick shot competitors could tell you more about this, they mentioned the difference on a trick shot telecast. I prefer the Simonis just because most tournaments seem to be played on it, and I want to simulate those conditions as closely as possible.
 
Tried the Championship felt on my table this time and have been very impressed with how well it plays and wears.

Don't think I'll go back.

I have always used Simonis on my home tables. The last time I had my table recovered I went with Championship 30-30 and plan on staying with it. Both cloths are excellent, but I just like the way Championship plays and it seems to wear better. JMO

Most of the rooms I play in use Simonis 860. Seems to me when the cloth is new, the balls slide quite a bit. Does this also happen with Champion? I've played on Champion cloth and have always liked it.
 
We have Simonis 860 on the six tables where I live and the pool hall I play at has switched from Simonis 860 to Championship 30-30 on their 18 tables. I believe the 30-30 is slightly faster and the room owner believes it lasts longer.

He did have one table covered with a super fast Championship cloth (I don't know which it was) but it was way too fast for me.

I don't know what the difference in cost is between the two. If significant I would go with the less expensive. Right now I am leaning toward Championship.

For all of those that said Championship Tour Edition, I concur. I've had it on my table for almost 2 years and it wears sooooo much better it isn't even close. I had 860 prior to that and hey, 860 is 860....it's a great cloth. But it doesn't wear well and Tour Edition is just as fast. After being away for almost two months, I actually forgot what my table looked like. When I took the cover off to play yesterday, it kind of stunned me to see how damn good and new the cloth looked, and I put some real heavy time in on the table since I got the Championship. It'll be going on my table as long as they keep making it.

If it is not stretched properly it is slow. I have that problem on my table as it is not stretched enough and as such the table plays alot slower then it should. The exact same cloth as I have on a table in some of the pool halls I play in is WAY faster, any more speed then that would be lame. I have played on tables with carom cloth on them, there is definately a point where a table plays far too fast.

I played a tourney on the chsmpionship cloth lasty weekend and it does play differently than simonis. I found it to me lots faster. Also the object balls skidded lots more often, you know the way they kind of roll backwards and then turn over when you shoot a rolling shot. Also, shooting 2 rails side to side the 2nd rail comes off lots longer than simonis. Not saying simonis is better just sharing differenvces I experienced.

Well I thought I got mine from billiardsexpress but when I went to check their current prices I see they are selling Simonis. So either I dont remember where I got it or they changed there cloth.

The cloth on my barbox when I bought it was so slow it was pathetic. It was never even stretched at all, more or less just snugged a bit. I am putting the Simonis 860 on my table right now and have stretched the cloth so tightly my fingers are almost bleeding.

If it isnt tight, it will roll off line quite a bit if it hits a really loose spot, even if the table is leveled, and will of course be much slower than it was supposed to play.....
