Change Must Be Made

changes must be made

There's only one guy that has it all and would be an excellent replacement for Danny D.

That's the one...the only...The Pearl....

Earl "The Pearl" Strickland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no problem with criticism of my commentary. The Justin/Jayson match was the first time I've ever done it for a professional event. Mark Wilson has done all of our past events but he wasn't available for that event.

But that won't stop me from speaking the truth. When one commentators job is to baby sit the other....it's time for change.

Having read many similar threads and having watched and listened to many, many, many Accu-Stats productions, I believe that for every viewer that likes DD there are probably two that don't. My personal opinion is that it is time for some new blood in the booth.

And the comparison of a local production, by a room owner just starting to offer some interesting match ups via stream, and what is generally considered to be the state-of-the-art in pocket billiards streams -- Accu-Stats -- from the US Open, is more than a little unfair.

I find so much arrogance from the two of you i dont know what say..the reason there is no new blood is because very few are that entertaining and knowledgeable

as for comparing the 2 lou...he put it out there and deserves anything that is said

Wasn't trying to be arrogance, was trying to explain that I have listened to more than my fair share of Accu-Stats pool commentary.

The funny thing is that these threads on DD's poor commentary keep coming up. If anyone deserves what's said you need look no further.

Put the criticism on me -- I did a lot of the talking during the Shaw/Bergman match.

One problem with most commentators, that turn me away is this. They try to upstage the player by impressing the audience with their know how on what shot the player will shoot. Then when the player does something different, the commentator has egg on his face., I like the opposite scenario ... The player pulls off a great shot & the commentator try to define what happened for the audience.

When Grady & Incardona commentated.. I left the room.... they were not my favorites. They beat each other up trying to impress folks. JMHO

Danny is the man!!! Sure he gets a little feeble at times but that's just more reason to love him. These young bucks have no respect for our founding pool fathers. These are most likely the same people whos cell phones are going off in the crowd even after being told 37 times to "PUT THEM ON VIBRATE"

You young guys have a problem ... the problem is, you're young guys. You can't appreciate the past cause you don't have one. You can't appreciate the stories cause you haven't lived them, and even after you have the years to have lived them, they won't be like they were. LOL ... well, :D what can I say.

Yeah Danny is getting old, but for me, he reminds me of some good old times. I'll tell you one thing, I'd rather listen to Danny for 6 days straight than listen to that English guy with that accent like he came to commentate with a bag of marbles in his mouth. I can't take that guy for more than 6 minutes.

But, I'll tell you what really gotta go. 9 ball really gotta go.

Special pain in the ass racks to keep from trick breaks or 15 minute exams of the rack.

You are allowed to leave those ridiculous racks on the table for balls to run over like speed bumps, and that's OK, but God forbid you leave it on the rail and it touches a ball that rebounds near it. That makes sense.

Place the 9 ball on the spot instead of the 1 ball, when you rack to prevent balls from going in.

Then, break hard enough to make 3 balls go past the side pockets or it's a foul.

Break from so many inches from the headspot.

PEOPLE .... you can't turn shit into candy no matter how you mix it. It's still gonna end up a crappy game no matter how many gimmick changes you throw at it.

I say ... scrap 9 ball ... play straight pool and one pocket, and let Danny commentate another 20 years.

I streamed the feed even when I was at the television match in the pit. I like the ability to see the table from the different perspectives of the cameras, and an instant replay after every shot. And yes, I also do it for the commentary, even from Danny, which I do find valuable.

I saw Mark Wilson in the elevator going up to his room after one very late match. I thanked him, and he said he and Danny had been terrible because they got punchy from fatigue. Well, they surely rambled far afield, as Danny was explaining why Mickey Mantle wasn't a great fielder, and Joe DiMaggio was far better. I could use less that kind of memory lane trip, and more of the great old pool stories Danny knows and tells.

He was discussing a young Oliver Ortmann at a 14.1 tournament. In the first round, it was a race to 100, and he ran 100 and out. In the second round, it was 125, and he ran 125 and out. Then in a later round, it was to 150, and he ran 150 and out. That is the kind of background information that is great to hear, and takes someone with Danny's long experience to know.

He regularly scoffs at himself when he gets the shot prediction wrong, and will say 'DiLiberto, shut up!' to himself on mike. Other times he says after a prediction 'but what do I know?,' or that he thinks they shoot a different shot to prove him wrong.

I do see why some get irritated with him from time to time, but for me, he still gets the job done. I hope he continues in this role, even though I still liked Grady a bit more.

But when did Jim Wyche stop doing the Open? Does his room keep him too busy these days?
