Changing Brunswick Superspeed Cushions?

I just bought a 5 year old Gold Crown table and the cushions are fine on the table, but before I have it set it up would it be worth it to change the Brunswick superspeed cushions to the Artemis Intercontinental K55 cushions? I want this table to play best as possible. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gerald

If the cushions are fine and your not changing the size of the pockets etc I would suggest leaving them. Most important to get a good mech to set up table for it to play as good as possible.

Mark it on your calendar!

I know this is unprecedented, but all 3 of us agree on something! lol:thumbup:

Good topic because I just got a GC4 and am putting Artemis cushions on, but I'm having the pockets brought in so new rubber was in the cards. On advice of counsel, I decided on the Artemis rather than the Superspeed.

I just got a smoking deal on a Brunswick Gibson table. I was wondering the same thing. I wanting to tighten the pockets up, I'm going with 1/4" neoprene facings instead of the rail extensions.

I have heard that the Brunswick Superspeed cushions could go bad and that the Artemis cushions plays better the the Brunsiwck cushions. I was thinking long term and I want the table to play best as possible. So I figure since the table has to be broken down and move it would be better to change the cushions now then later.

That's why I went with the Artemis. I'm told they play better and last MUCH longer. Of course, they cost more. If you see the Artemis and Superspeed cushions naked, the Artemis rubber just looks like a more quality product.

Which cushions plays better Brunswick Superspeed or the Artemis Intercontinental K55? I'm more concern in playability.

Which cushion plays better

I am buying a Gold Crown 4 and I have talked to 4 different table mechanics and asked which rail plays better for bank pool.
Every one of them said that the K55 Superspeed rail by Brunswick is the superior product.

just my sense from all the posts that i've read on this forum ...

super speeds:
they start off great and are very lively, but they loose this after about 2-5 years and become more stable but not as lively.

artemis:
stays the same from the day you get it ...but it's not quite as lively as the superspeeds are at the start; but they are more lively than where the super speeds end up after a couple years.

so I think that people like artemis for its stability over time, but like the superspeeds for their initial lively behavior ....

i put artemis k-66 on my table and have been quite happy....I do notice changes in cushion rebound based on room temperature ...but i've not tried the modern superspeed cushions to compare ..

my old cushions were old brunswicks probably from 20 years ago and were moderately slower than the cushions i have now ....they probably didn't really need replacing .....but I have to fix the unbroken by nature.....

Why would you put k-66 cushions on a table that had k-55 on it previously?
i don't have a gold crown ...i have an old kling.

umm they weren't exactly k-55 or k-66 cushions....if that makes sense ....but they were essentially k-66 cushions.

i still have them if you want me to give you the specs....

i was just trying to comment on the rubber ...not the profile....

...

Are they 4-sided cushions? What's the specs?

I feel bad that we are hijacking this thread to talk about my cushion profile....

i was just trying to make some comments on the rubber quality. I will post some pictures etc later.

I think my setting strips must have been modified at some point to take k-66 ....but I will show you guys what was on there ...

yes, another mechanic turned me on to this. he recommended "Neoprene Sheet, 60 Durometer" which you can find on ebay, cheap. i wish i had known this long ago. i put some thick facings on my GC1 and it played terrible.

but i was told that all cushions are made of pure gum rubber. if so, what could possibly be the difference between them, outside of the profile? how can some last longer or be more lively?

All cushions are definitely not made of pure gum rubber. You were mislead.
