Charles Manson died not long ago

Keep it in one thread...

And stop stalling, get the fook on widdit. Jesus, it's like I'm watching Kaci play with no clock...

Well the students suddenly took an interest in selling, and actually became interested in heling me get new prospects for my gambling

Charle watson came up to me and told me he was working for Braniff the airline company. He explained threre were 100s of guys like him earning a paycheck for baggage handling. He went on to tell me that
the place was so unorganized that you really didn't have to work because there were more workers than planes

While the handlers were between loading luggage there were many card games andhe had seen fellas lose hundreds or win hundreds of dollars. This got my interest, back in the 60s a hundred dollars was like about $1000 is today,,You could buy a car for $2500,a house for $10,000 , a root beer, burger and fries for a dollar.

To make sure that I got the job Charlie got the IQ Test they gave,I guess he figured I wasn't that bright
so he obtained a copy of the test to assure that I passed and got the job so I could get in the game

How smart do you have to be topick up a suitcase?

Well with the aid of the test I marched down to Braniff and applied for a real live job.To tell the truth I was embarrassed I felt like a loser( not that working for a living is bad but at this period in my life
back in the 60s I thought I was going to win millions)

Well since i had the test and the answers I made 100% on the test,I know because they told me.
A special guy in a blue suit came to talk to me"College boy",he said"you made 100 ,now I find myself wondering, why would a smart guy like you want to load baggage when you could be on the fast track?"

He wanted to discuss management,a real opportunity forthe future. I would hear nothing of it,I explained that I wanted to get in at the bottom, work with the grass roots, master every step up from the bottom,I wanted no preferment.
"you want to start at the bottom,to the bottom you go"

Yes sir,I said, let me at em.

After a week of training how to pick up a suitcase ,they even had a segmented wooden man to show me how to
pick up a bag without hurting myself.

Well I was introduced to the guys and even climbed into a couple of airplanes, picked up a dozen or two suitcases and got to drive a little segmented miniature train thing full of suitcases from one plane to the next.

Finally I got to the lunch room or pit or whatever it was where bored workers passsed time waiting for the endof the shift. The card game was open to all and the older men warned me to protect my money
"Perhaps you should leave the gambling to the people with experience they said"

not to be deterred I explained that LUCKY was my name and poker was my game. So i was admitted to the game.Tuns out they were anteing about a quarter and $1 was the limit.

I felt like it would take a miracle to win $100 or more and thought of quitting, but I strengthened myself with the fact that I had often won hundreds by getting the guys to bet more, change the game to pot limit.

It was work,Iwas not afraid of work

Turns out the guys had a private game, they met off work at the Lemon Twist Bar and went to
play pot limit poker.

Well I went to the Lemon Twist with the thought of getting in the big game.I have told you guys before
that the toughest part of gambling fora living is finding a game,I used to go into as many as 15 bars a night to find a pool game, day after day, night after night. Oh yes,i worked scintifically,I promised the bar maid big bucks if she would call me if anyone came in with big money

Well ,as luck would have, the minute i walked into the little bar I saw the pool table, and a bully of a guy trying to coerce the usual patrons into betting $10(about $150 in todays dollars)
a pretty good bet in those days.

His plan seemed to be to berate the patrons and act like a big shot,I walked up and said I will play for $50 and not a cent less. Turns out this was a businessman, the son in law of a huge multi millionaire

Thestory gets strange, you might even find it unbelievable from here, this guy Bud says to me and my friend Tonty abbott,"get in my car and lets go to my business and get some real money"

We got in the car, drove to his motorcycle shop,he took us to the safe, opened it and pulled out a pile of money and some checks.

Now hesays"Lets go gamble"

Like a father saying to the kids "Lets go to Disneyland"

Off we went for what turned out to be a huge score,we played all night and by morning we were betting $500 a game and I was complaining that he wouldn't bet more

The nexrt day bud realized he had lost over $20,000 which as I say was like a quarter million or more in todays dollars,so he talked us into taking 2 brand new motorcycles as part payment,we did.Gone was the bravado of the previous night and he treated us like buddies so we settled

oops my collie need to go

'Ol "Charles" Watson of NTSU sounds like such a normal cat. Hard to see someone like that going completely off-the-rails and become a drug-addled murderer. Manson must have been one helluva a brainwasher.

Hey Dean, flash back to August of '69. You've just heard that a former college acquaintance was one of the Manson killers. What was your first thought? "Huh?", "WTF?", "Can't be the same guy, could it?" Just curious. That's gotta be a blow to the system.

Manson seemed to be supernaturally evil

He scared me to see him on TV ,I can not even
think of an explanation other than filled with the devil

Watson was a clean cut kid before and afterwards
he was a killer

All this happened in 3 years or so from the time I knew him

I really don't know how I feel about parole for him
something in me thinks he is back to the kid I knew

something else says beware

To your question about when I heard the bad story,I felt amazed
about like you describe, an innocent kid turns monster

I didn't know what to think

You're probably right on this. I imagine once he was clean and away from Manson's mind-control he was probably the kid from Texas again. I've read quite a bit about the whole Manson/Tate deal and i guess when Tex got to California he became a huge druggie and Manson played him like a cheap fiddle. Great read if interested: "Manson: The Life and Times of Charles Manson" by Texas author Jeff Guinn. Probably the best book ever written on Charlie.

I am sure it had more than a little to do with the lsd that was floating around.

Have a nice trip.

The evil that lurks in the minds of men! There's a dark side inside all of us that most of us keep well hidden all our lives.

And a LOT of speed to go with it. Trippin' your a^* off and wired-4-sound. Now that's a daily-double right there.

I did not know that. Must be a helluva ride, hyper focused and whacked out of your mind.

Like cocaine and tequila...with 2 turbos!

In that video i linked to Tex refers to being wired-up a lot. Manson was a master of doling out the vitamin-A in just the right amounts to be able to con these idiots into doin his bidding.
