Charley has been in town a few days doing some teaching and playing a little pool. I think he has won every pool tournament he has entered since he has been here.

After giving me a thrashing (twice), he asked me if I would like a pool tip and of course I replied, "SURE!":D

You never know what pool tip you might get from someone and Charley has been writing volumes about pool for the many years I have known him so I jumped at the chance to listen to his pool tip.

Now, I have to be candid. I'm not going to tell you the pool tip that he shared with me on straight in shots. But it is something that is a unique perspective that I have never read, seen or heard from any other source and yes, it is a valuable tip.

If you know Charley, you can ask him yourself. Even if you don't know him, you can ask him and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he tells you.

Sometimes, a pool tip for one person might be old stuff rehashed or maybe something that has never been said in the same manner and it just might have a positive effect on your pool game.

Charley and his lovely wife Heather are traveling around a bit, selling their new line of T-shirts and other pool related products so you just might see them in your town some day. Heather has a pretty good deal for you creative types. Tell her about a T-shirt design that you would like to see and if they use it, you will get a free T-shirt when they are printed. Just don't send in someone else's design. You can probably reach them on Facebook without any problem if you're interested.

(Still waiting for Charley to publish his book).

Let's clarify, was this a "pool tip" or a "cue tip"?

I didn't get this from Charley, I got it from local short stop Doug Sharp, but it works: on straight in shots, make the point of aim be where the base of the object ball touches the cloth.

That's almost how I do it. I align myself with the base of the cue ball to the base of the object ball.

What is the purpose of another post where you I got a tip, can't tell you what it is, ask him when you see him.

What is the value in a post telling others about a tip you received?

2006 US Open 9-ball

Gabe has a long shot on the 7-ball at hill/hill against Rudolpho to get the hot seat.
Hillbilly is sitting a couple seats away from me.....
...he says that Gabe will have trouble with this shot....he holds the cue too short....
....playing too much one-pocket.
"He should hold the cue longer and firmer for this dead-ball hit."

Many snooker players are aware of this.

Gabe rattled it and Rudy won the hot seat.

George Fels said that 'Hillbilly' was a misnomer....he found him to be thoughtful and
well spoken.

no more problems, no more sorrows, yet they are...... relentless "tomorrows".

It's amazing that you actually know the two guys that get most excited about pool tips. You must be busier than Santa traveling around making sure no one gets more excited than John and Joey..

Everyday's a Holiday, wishing you and yours the very best today.....and tomorrow. ;)

Haven't you figured out yet...NOBODY in the world, gets more excited about getting a " pool tip", than my good friends,
Joeya and John B...They go berserk ! (Did you miss post # 5 ? :p)

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

No idea if this is Hillbilly's "trick" but a trick to making shots that are genuinely straight in is to forget the object ball, aim the cue ball at the exact point in the pocket you want the object ball to go.

This post is still a little light on quotation marks so "aim small, miss small" if at all!

Hu(knows that one exclamation point is worth at least a full set of quotation marks!)

That's what I was thinkings ,, my tip is twist the cue inward

Thank you, so much.

If you watch the old Charlie Chan movies, that's what he would say after questioning an uncooperative suspect.

Charley, spent a month or so in this area in the late 90's and played many matches in my poolhall.

I found him to be very bright, introspective, intense, competitive and sharing. GR8 guy!!

Robbed everybody he played rotation games with, but, was just starting to dabble at Louisiania Hog Pool and that came home to roost.

He and Tony Wataon are both from Hickory, NC (population 69), Charley said another monster was from the area...whodathunk a trio like that from THERE

And seriously Mr. Wiley, I wish all the best of the holiday season, to you and yours !...

I'm sorry, but why post about receiving a tip, yet not sharing it. Either don't share anything or spill the beans. I just can't conceive of any harm in passing along something that might help other members here. Otherwise, it makes you look.......selfish, or worse. I don't know, it's really in bad taste. Merry Christmas, Joey.

I would buy his DVD if he can tell me how to make a long straight in,with the cue ball frozen to the end rail.

Because it was an attempt at a veiled post to let everyone know that Joey's new friend Mr. Hillbilly is available for lessons and also is now selling T shirts.

I don't see anything objectionable about that...it's something lots of people might want to know.

I took a few lessons from Hillbilly several years back. A super nice guy that actually has the ability to teach.

Not bad, in fact that is good stuff if it works for you. I know it works for some.
