Thirty cents per hour at Troy Billiards in Chicago ... wow! Did I mention that this was in 1907?

I was at Chris's the other night the table conditions are so bad they should be paying us to play on them and the AC no longer works..... LOL pool was so much better years ago it is truly sad to see what it is becoming. I feel like the end is in sight....

Chris's??

I cant remeber the name of the upstairs Pool Hall in Chicago, used to be a lot of action there, hope its still around I'll be there in July..,

is that Chris's??

Yes, the original used in The Color of Money is an upstairs room on Milwaukee Ave in Chicago.

As far as the price of pool... it depends where you are! For those who don't understand, pool time is "air". Pool halls make money from table time as well as food & beverage & other distractions (juke box, gambling, etc).

Though admittedly a little before my time, I'm thinking 30 cents/hour was not that cheap in 1907.

I'm sure Mr. Bond would love to see that photo, if he hasn't already. Very cool picture - thanks for sharing.

i can rememebr 5 cents per rack for 9 ball and you didn;t rack you own either!

I have a **Day Time Special** for $10 (per player)...that is good from **OPEN (11:00 AM) til 6:00 PM...That works out to $1.42 an hour. Our normal 2 player rate is $10 per hour.

Chicago Billiard Cafe has a daily special, $7 to play from 12-6, $10 on weekends. Also ladies play free Sundays and Tuesdays.

As far as Chris's.. It is in the process of being sold. The new owners are gonna clean it up and of course recover the tables. There will be a daily special, but I don't know exactly what it will be yet. There are other plans, but i wont get into that. The A/C works, it was on the other day.

Yeah, I don't mind paying whatever price to play... they gotta eat too :)

But I know the price of pool has NOT kep up with inflation, and has been beaten down lower than ever. Some places are giving it away for free just in the hopes of selling a few beers and a burger.

Ok, all you math experts....figure out what the price of pool should be today based on the .30 an hour from 1907.

I'm guessing, based on inflation, today pool should cost around $15 per hour, (just a guess) but very few places charge that much, even though costs have gone up,labor has gone up, rent and electicity have gone up, etc.etc....

Ok, lets see what the "experts" peg what the going rate should be ??

^^^ I am no expert, but according to on line investment calculators....

At 3% annual inflation rate - it would be $7.09 after 107 years. No idea if that is an appropriate inflation rate or not. IF it was 5% the number wold be over $50. the power of compounding!

I am NO expert but if it was .30 cents an hour in 1907 and I paid .60 cents an hour in 1966 that would be a difference of 59 years. So if it doubled again in the next 59 years in the year 2025 they should be getting $1.20 an hour. Damn it RJ we are getting ripped off!!!

I pay about $18/hr
For 3c. I swear my tight ass puckers even tighter when I go up to the counter and the dude says '46.60'. He should be paying me, based on the frustration he sponsors and the hours he is taking from my life!

Pool is free...in my basement!

I'd like to be in your basement some day.

You and the family are always welcome when in the area, but I had to get rid of the dungeon coz the kids needed a 3rd playroom.
