On the entertainment side there is a content war going on. Pool is not an " event " sport. The content wars are brutal darwinian realties.
For us folks that are aficionados we will watch pool matches. But think about it. Any game or sport has to survive against other content and folks that never played football watch football, Basket Ball etc.
How many folks that don't play pool watch pool? The highest paid woman in pool was never the top player. The Black Widow made it on sex appeal.
The major audience for games and sports is men. There is only one way to make the game compelling and that is to make the purses really big: and who is gonna shell out that kind of cash?
We need 1 million dollars for the US open top prize and then you would have to do that for a while and promote it. Big money creates buzz.
Then the folks that win that prize money must be made into stars. One of the biggest obstacles is the players themselves. Working with pool players is like herding cats.
