One of things that struck me during her match against Biado was that at 1030 pm, while most kids her age were already in bed or getting ready for bed, she was gearing to play a man ranked 10th under Fargo's world player list (ranked 11th under the WPA list). If the match with Biado had been closer, the end time for the match would've been edging towards midnight or past midnight. I think it was around 1130 pm eastern when Biado won easily, 11-2.
Centeno will have it tough in any large men's tournament she plays, not only because she is female, but also because she is still a kid. Many don't realize that as a teenager, her sleep needs are closer to a child's than to an adult. Biologically speaking, because her brain is still developing and has not yet matured to run as efficiently as a fully developed adult brain, she will have a much tougher time focusing and strategizing playing in the late hours of the night. This is one reason why sleep deprivation affects kids much more drastically than adults.
If put in the loser's side, the later it gets in the day, the harder her matches will be, on many levels. As she advances in the losers brackets, she will eventually have to play the loser of the winner's side (like Biado) but much later in the day--in this case, right when her brain is telling her she needs to go to sleep.
Contrast her performance against Yu Lung Chang, ranked 11th under Fargo and 10th under WPA, right behind and before Biado respectively in the different rankings.. She played Y.L. Chang much earlier in the day and won 8 games to his 11, after leading in the beginning 3-1. It's no surprise that she didn't do as well playing against Biado at 1030 pm. At that time of night, there is little chance that a 17 year old will have as much focus and mental energy as a 32 year old man. Not only is she playing a higher ranked player, she has biology working against her.
