****Special Thanks to my buddy Smorgass Bored for the title of this thread****

I am the Tournament Director at my $50 monthly 9Ball event. 2 players are playing to see who gets in the money. It's cue ball fouls only.

Player A has the cue ball very close to the 2 ball. When he shoots the 1 in, he knocks the 2 ball with his cue. The cueball travels 2 rails and is close to crossing the path of the 2, but is onconclusive whether is crosses the path or not based on what the players said.(they did not have me watch the shot). I called no foul. Player B does not agree with call and started a crying routine up and down the rail. Player A, whom was about to shoot, stops and say's, "if it's that important to you take it". Players B says ok and takes ball in hand and runs out. That ties the match 5-5 in a race to 7.

If you don't ask for a ref, it becomes the opponents choice and as long as there was a chance that the cueball would have been in the area, he was right.

Another member on the team...

Rumor has it that Player B was just picked up by the Kleenex company for a full ride sponsorship!

He'll be cryin' at a tournament near you very soon...

Great showing for our future pool players. Were the young adults privileged enough to watch what was going on?

Pocket Billiards is suppose to build Character not be a venue to expose it.

Chicken Chit move.

There's no crying in Pool!

Once you made the call, that should have been the end of it. Player B is a jerk.

Who won the match?

I did not say, since I did say they were playing to get "in the money", you may be able to deduce who it was. I did not start this poll to publicly embarrass anyone more than they already did for themselves. I only started it because they kept crying about the call through the weekend and even called me this morning looking for validation. Of course they didn't get it.

Thanks to everyone for your input here.

Actually, no. If the opponent doesn't call for a ref to watch the shot, the call goes to the shooter. You can look it up.

I agree with everyone that it was chicken chit move. However, if you, as the tournament director, over heard them continue to discuss it and the other player give up, I would have liked to see you get in there before the player took ball in hand and lay down the law that your decision was final and that they should play from there, no discussion. If you did not hear any of that follow up whining and the concession of ball in hand just to shut him up, then never mind.

You made the correct call in saying "no foul".
The choice by player A to supersede your decision and to relinquish the turn back to player B was very honorable and he should be commended for that. I'm sure that rather than to continue the argument he felt it was not worth it. I hope player A won the match.

P.S. Looks like player B voted on this poll.

Good point. Perhaps I should have went back over and gave Player B a warning and reminded them again of the ruling being final.

Player A still can give up ball in hand if he chooses.

I am always looking for ways to become a better TD/Ref. It's a tough job. Sometimes you WILL make the wrong call, but it's still the call.

Thanks for the input.

I'm sorry Ray.....I've been under a lot of stress lately.....I was on my period....also, those hormone pills are driving me crazy.....this sex change stuff just isn't as easy as I thought it would be :D

Signed, Mrs. Garrison and Mr. Hat

So who won?

Ray,

You can't police everyone and you did the right thing in the 1st place, but the only reason the guy gave up ball in hand was because he was fed up with the whining, which I hate. So I thought I'd add that one more thing to take it a step further. TD is a no-win job anyway, my hats off to you for doing it.

TD problems

The problem is not the the whining player but with the Tournament Director. Your ruling is final period.. no appeals.
