China Open

Thanks for the translation. I was going by a label I saw on the table in the game Oi ran out to win a match in the early rounds:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLKzymHfw8Q

It looks like the labelling is different from the other end, and the score graphic seems to covers most of the foot skirt.

Bejing XingweiSports is parent co. XingPai-STAR is their table line. https://xingpaibilliard.en.china.cn/about.html

Yes, this is the best-known one; basically, like the lucasi of pool tables...

I take exception to the "money-hungry" part. These guys wouldn't be in pool if that was a primary trait. 98% of them are paupers and even if they become #1, they will still make less than 1/10th the bucks the top 20 guys at every decent Wall St firm make.

There are only 4 guys on the money list who make more than the average salaried slob in the USA and if you consider expenses there is probably only one-barely. I'm not here to shout this is so unfair etc-just to point out that most pros are hoping to just eek out a living doing something they love and being money hungry plays no part. Once they are in the pro game, they are desperate for money is perhaps a fair statement.
Its called "SARCASM" dude. Relax.

You call them STARS which you have heard of and, Bob calls them XING PAI Brand he has never heard of. Are we all taking about the same table ?
Have seen their tables labeled both ways, XingPai and STAR. STAR is usually on their snooker and Chinese 8b tables and XingPai on Amer.-style tables. Home company is Bejing XingweiSports. Huge company that makes all kinds of stuff. Tables is just one line. Makes Brunswick look like a mom-n-pop outfit.

Did you see the quotation marks and the "Da Party"(as in the Comm. Party)? Yes, the whole statement was in jest.

Oh because i wouldn't have a problem calling them whiny and wouldn't argue hard against spoiled. I have also heard them 100% seriously called 'money-hungry'

PS-Many a truth has been said in jest as You know.

Never mind brother. You're trying to take what i said out of context. Not meant to be taken seriously but i can't help what others do. Movin on...........................

Hungry/hunger is not necessarily bad thing. It is ok to be hungry. Hungry for food, for money, for love, for sex, for life.
Greed on other hand is another thing altogether. Though Gecko would say that greed is good.
I prefer passion. Passion for life, passion for food, love, sex. But you can't really say "passion for money" because they do not go well together :D

Why is there no result for this event on the AZBilliards front page news?

I mean.. It's $40,000.00 for first, right? Kind of a big deal, and it kinda had a few big players innnit.

Let's get it together, peeps... :-)

The organizers couldn't even keep their internet site up & running with the brackets. You think they are going to send out an event write-up (in English) for AZB to post?

#2, 3 and 4 in Fargo made it to the final 4. Except for one glaring and aggravating exception, they got it perfect.

PS- Those tables were terrible-Not even fit for a broken down pool room on the third floor in some slum!

I started to watch the finals on youtube. I saw a ball 1/2 inch off the rail between the side pocket and third diamond. It hit the rail at the third diamond and still went in. I saw another ball hit from between the side pockets and half a diamond off the center line. It hit the rail at least a half inch and probably 3/4 of an inch above the point, it dropped as well. I could not watch any more after that. It really hit home Ronnie O'Sullivan's comparison of pool and snooker.......Crazy Golf vs the U.S. Open at Augusta.

Here is an early example. Only hits the rail at the second diamond.

Check out the roll of the cue ball on this shot.

This is the first shot that I mentioned in my previous post.

This is the shot that totally turned my stomach.

I have no dog in this hunt so all i'm saying is that set-up is everything. I've seen Diamonds and GC's play badly if not set-up/leveled correctly. Also, we all know how new, slick cloth makes any table play easy. Just guessin' here but i'd bet that the set-up crew at this event weren'tfull-time table techs.

All those shots are hard to judge because of the new cloth. I think that's the difficult part of setting up these tournament tables. Even with 4 inch pockets balls are going to slide in with new cloth and then everyone will complain about the setup. We've seen similar shots go in during the Mosconi Cup and supposedly those pockets we're as small as 4 1/8".

I've wondered if the cloth manufacturers couldn't figure out a way to provide broken in cloth just for tournaments.

I would not be surprised if every 9-foot table in the US rejected that ball. I think that they may be using very soft pocket facings.
Upon further review; I was being generous with 3/4 inch. That ball hit the rail and the leading edge was not beyond the point. Making it at least 1 inch up the rail that it made contact. Along with soft facings and new cloth the table must have no shelf at all.

I've often thought same thing. There's got to be a way to reduce some of new cloth slickness at the mill. I know it goes away pretty quickly but at a lot of major events new cloth makes the tables look like big bar-boxes.
