Chohan V Orcollo October 5 –8

I think you are all missing the point. Not only is the sport as a whole trying to promote this particular game but, you have finally a player out there that brings some kind of excitement to the game.

If you want to discount what Tony brings to this arena at this time then I think you are doing this a big disservice.

HE IS THE REASON WHY YOU GET THAT KIND OF VIEWERSHIP.

The first match was streamed Free. The second was a Pay Per View. Now why is that? Are you telling me that Dennis has never played one pocket before this?

Sort, but I watched every bit as much for both players, for the quality of play, more than either.

The draw was top level 1p.

And the different stream deals were likely due to the fact that different streamers did the work.

I don't think Tony like boys, so you can quit trying to get a date.

You articulate yourself so well maybe I can date you? Your colorful username indicates you are looking for action.

Duh. That is why your claim was so fukkking idiotic.

You are right. Nobody understands the game except of course the 3 experts on here defending a slower, boring, even more calculated game.

Tell you what, keep the game in the dark corner of the hall where nobody pays attention. That’s obviously what excites you.

I love how TRex plays....reminds me of Ronnie Allen in his prime...without the sass.
..but every player has to be allowed to play the way he plays best.

I just can't picture Efren playing like Lou Butera...and they're both great to watch.

Won’t matter who challenges him or who he challenges. His play is slow and boring. Let’s be honest. The only reason people watch this is because of Tony. Otherwise it’s just another match.

He has fans but not strong enough fans to watch him play 4 days of boring pool. We have all watched players pocket balls. Enough said.

I think you just stated why pool has dramatically fallen in popularity for the main stream. He better be playing for the crowds. Otherwise why are we all paying to see this? I can watch grass grow in my yard. FOR FREE!

If it’s just a match between them then they should find a quite room for just the 2 of them and put up there own cash.

Some of us have to make decisions as to wether we watch “The Big Lebowski” on HBO or pay money to watch a match. Which I would like to add the players see none of. Including the future sales of the DVD’s. This is a sin in itself. Players should see royalties just like any other broadcast.

Never the less, people want to see great shots made by great competitive players and they are willing to pay for it.

So for the love of the sport and for the anticipation of such, they best be playing for the crowds.

Well let’s see how many people pay for watching a library session. At the end of the day that’s what speaks.

Sent from my iPhone using AzBilliards Forums

It’s about f*£€£king time they get paid! And with that said then they ARE PLAYING for the masses.

This is moronic! So tell me ladies and gentlemen, exactly how many one pocket matches have been played on ESPN!

That’s a big fat ZERO!

You are proving my point!

Tony has brought something to the game that never existed before. It’s called excitement! Dennis brings nothing and I mean nothing but pocket making. For the love of Christ, Tony isn’t exactly the fastest moving person in the world. Yet he make Dennis look like he is standing still. You do the math.

Sent from my iPhone using AzBilliards Forums

I explain it by the fact that I paid money. Twat rag!

Sent from my iPhone using AzBilliards Forums

Not to make you look stupid but, I am pretty sure there are more than “2865” places grass is grown. Maybe that’s the problem!? Maybe your reference is off. Just saying.

Sent from my iPhone using AzBilliards Forums

If he is in the batters box and if he strike out and if he is being paid....well then, I would have to say it makes perfect sense.

You must be watching playoffs. How clever an analogy.

I don’t know how to state it more clearly. Watching Dennis play is boring. If I was Tony I would slam the stack also. What else do you have to lose? At that point if you divide the time by effort, it might be worth 5K for the one hour of sleep.

Hahaha! That’s pretty funny I must admit.

Although like most posters here, you bring nothing to the conversation that is productive in any way other than to try to prove in some awkward way that you have an IQ past a common house fly. The fact that you store a video like that then take the effort to post it shows lack of sophistication. But, hey if simple things like this make you feel better about yourself then who am I to argue. You can’t fix stupid and I certainly am out of energy trying to convince you or your posse as to why these matches get the attention they do. We will see the next mega event Dennis puts on. That will be the real telling tail. Till then sit tight and watch players make balls.

You speak as though we are stating recent 1p matches are gonna be the next microbrew.

There is a market for 1p and there is no better product than ttony v. Dennis, to date.

That’s right! You made a correct statement. Welcome to the real world. With that said, what would be so wrong with it bringing the next Microbrew? I think a progression in the game (whatever pool/billiards game that might be) is a good if not great thing. Whatever it takes to get it there I am down with. Promote the sport, make the purses larger and bring pool back to a place where you are recruiting players and filling pool halls again.

If posters could grasp that simple concept and the point I am trying to get across instead of letting ego interfere with reason, then there would be no argument to be had.

Your point is based in fantasy. Pool will never be a big viewership sport.

You obviously don’t recall Minnesota Fats and William Mosconi with Howard Cossell commentating and even running interference between players. That had a huge audience. That’s fact not fantasy. It certainly won’t get there with your negative attitude.

Here's my take on things. 9-Ball is 9-Ball and One Pocket is One Pocket. They are both played on a pool table but are wholly different games, with a different strategy and different skills required. 9-Ball is all about coming up big on the break and running out, although often times a good defense is necessary. Safety battles can and will occur and being able to kick effectively and jump balls is mandatory.

One Pocket on the other hand is more cerebral and has been called the chess game of pool. Smart shooting often will beat a more skilled shooter, with a strong defense a winning formula. Because of this, there is often more thought involved in making a decision on what the best shot may be. To take it a step further, in 9-Ball there is only one possible ball to shoot at first! In One Pocket you have a myriad of options and can shoot at any ball or no balls if you prefer.

I like a well paced game on 9-Ball or Ten Ball and using a shot clock is helpful in making this happen. In One Pocket I fully understand the thought processes involved and would be a lot more lenient in allowing the shooter time to make their decision. I'd rather see a great shot than one that is rushed. I would be against a shot clock in all but the most extreme situations, such as when all the balls are down table and a "wedge" is formed. In that instance, in the discretion of a referee a one minute shot clock would be helpful.

The bottom line for me is not to remake the game of One Pocket. It's perfect just the way it is! Although I do happen to like the four ball rule when all the balls begin to go up table. I seriously doubt that One Pocket will ever be a game for the masses or suitable for TV. But for the real pool fans who like to see some creativity and shot making, give us more pure unadulterated One Pocket. There is a hard core audience of over 100,000 pool players in this country (perhaps as many as 250,000) and that is not a small audience to appeal to. The recent free stream showed us all what is possible in gaining viewership. When you start getting audiences in the high five figures, it begins to have appeal to sponsors, whether they be in the pool world or not. There are many cable TV shows currently airing that do not regularly get six figure audiences.

Carry on kids!

By far the most watched pool show of all time! The ratings were through the roof! That's why they did it again a couple more times, and even created The Legends of Pool on ESPN to showcase these two and several others.

Finally someone that understands. I love my AZ community. Good bad and blue-balls. Wouldn’t give it up for anything. I love the sport. Nobody to blame but yourself when you lose. Been there. Done that more than I will ever want to admit. Or did I just do that? Never the less I love it. I only want to watch it progress. I want players to get paid what they should. Like any other sport. In my opinion it takes intelligence and physical discipline. I don’t know too many games like that. I don’t know too many individual sports that encompass these attributes. One pocket is the pinnacle of these disciplines. We as a community need to help is rise. Bring it from the dirty grimy gambling game it is known for to a true respectable sport. I have seen and also been on the side of physical fights arguments and excuses. I’ve done it. I have had it done to me. Even in recent.

I only want to make it better not worse.
