Chohan V Orcollo October 5 –8

You realize they were playing one pocket right?

If you want to watch a fast game, watch 9ball.

Besides that, there was a ton of cash on the line and Dennis wasn't going to shoot until he knew it was the right shot.

If you ever play for that kind of cash, I'll expect you to just wing it and shoot in 5 seconds. LOL .... NOT!!!

This wasn't on HBO or SHOWTIME, it was on a livestream and these guys are real players, not actors. They are not playing for the crowds, they are playing for cash.

Oh bother......I doubt you even get it.....

This is moronic! So tell me ladies and gentlemen, exactly how many one pocket matches have been played on ESPN!

That’s a big fat ZERO!

You are proving my point!

Tony has brought something to the game that never existed before. It’s called excitement! Dennis brings nothing and I mean nothing but pocket making. For the love of Christ, Tony isn’t exactly the fastest moving person in the world. Yet he make Dennis look like he is standing still. You do the math.

You obviously don't understand 1p. Nothing you can say can prove otherwise.

Damn near EVERY SHOT Dennis an Tony took was a 'great shot'. That is why they are the best.

There are over 2865 places in the US where grass grows and there aren't 10 people in the world than can play 1p as well as these two.

Not to make you look stupid but, I am pretty sure there are more than “2865” places grass is grown. Maybe that’s the problem!? Maybe your reference is off. Just saying.

That makes zero sense. That's like saying yeah he strikes out every time but he does it fast and gets out of the batters box so fast.

If he is in the batters box and if he strike out and if he is being paid....well then, I would have to say it makes perfect sense.

You must be watching playoffs. How clever an analogy.

I don’t know how to state it more clearly. Watching Dennis play is boring. If I was Tony I would slam the stack also. What else do you have to lose? At that point if you divide the time by effort, it might be worth 5K for the one hour of sleep.

I have never found Dennis to be boring to watch.
He's not a staller, he is busy all the time when it's his shot...shoots when he's ready.

A slow player who can't get out is tiring....Dennis is exciting.

He has fans but not strong enough fans to watch him play 4 days of boring pool. We have all watched players pocket balls. Enough said.

If the only reason you are watching is for the entertainment value and not to learn something, then you really need to get out of the house and do something.

P.S.- Don't try taking up fishing. ;)

I think you are all missing the point. Not only is the sport as a whole trying to promote this particular game but, you have finally a player out there that brings some kind of excitement to the game.

If you want to discount what Tony brings to this arena at this time then I think you are doing this a big disservice.

HE IS THE REASON WHY YOU GET THAT KIND OF VIEWERSHIP.

The first match was streamed Free. The second was a Pay Per View. Now why is that? Are you telling me that Dennis has never played one pocket before this? How many of you were hyped to see his other matches? How many other pay per view matches has Dennis been featured on? This has nothing to do with the fact that Dennis is an outstanding player and played a fantastic race. Every sport or game needs some sort of character (for whatever reason) to bring it to the forefront. At the moment it’s Tony. It’s not Dennis. You should all be happy that Tony is that person of the moment. His shooting style and calculated risk taking is what makes it exciting. The commentators have a hard time keeping up with how and why he does what he does. But, it works for him and more importantly it works for the game and the sport.

When Tony takes those risks and when they pan out it truly is a symphony to watch. I don’t agree with every shot or shot choices. Some of the racks Tony shot are absolutely amazing. Same for Dennis. The difference is the level of risk taken to accomplish the outs. It is what makes it exciting and there is no doubt Tony is re-writing the book on how this game could be played. Take it for what it is and be glad everyone is finally showing interest in a game that otherwise would not get much attention outside of the few players that love the game. I for one loved both matches although I think Tony played this one a little tighter than his style benefits from. I look forward to another match. If it’s a slowly played traditional match up I seriously doubt you will get these viewership numbers unless you have a player that brings something to the game that the “public” wants to see. It’s not the most exciting game to watch unless you have a deep understanding of the game (which I will not say I have). I can’t tell you how many times my wife passed me on the couch asking me “are you still watching this? It’s so boring!”

However that same wife watches the Mosconi cup with me. Another format that brings excitement to the game.

First match, I think the views were over 3000. More than the finals of 9b and 10b tournaments.

Viewers on the final day of the first match with free stream by POV Pool reached over 5000 -- created a heckuva buzz that is still reverberating.

For years I've listened to commentary about how cerebral the game of one-pocket is. I've heard it takes years to learn all the subtle moves a player must learn to really play this game at the highest level.

So we have those players that have put in this time and earned the advantage of having increased knowledge and what do they do? They give it all away by NOT playing with a shot clock. If you let a world class player stand there and study the table indefinitely, they inevitably we will find the shot. These top one pocket players should be demanding a shot clock.

There's a reason there are so many threads on why 1p kt is so boring and it's not because of Dennis. This game has been played much slower for decades.

I don't necessarily agree that they will inevitably find the shot, but I definitely agree with the idea of using a shot clock. You don't need one for 90-95% of players, but that 5 or 10% you do, and they are at all levels of the game from the best in the world to beginners. And chances are, those players are extra deliberate like that in other games too, not just One Pocket. I remember the year Jeremy Jones won the US Open 9-ball and he would have really had to speed up if they had used a shot clock.

Duh. That is why your claim was so fukkking idiotic.
