See post #9. I think by "equal" he means "random". That's how I'm taking it anyway. TennesseeJoe, any comment on that?

I agree with you that random could be the interpretation.

The poll results are equaly divided and this may show it depends on your perspective. The more skilled player would probably have a better layout evaluation but it would be based on his/her skill sets. A lesser skilled player knowing a two shot run is good for them would have a much different perspective.

A similiar situation to this poll could be found in One Pocket. Have you ever seen a novice One Pocket player shoot a ball in his pocket but reducing his chance to win?

On your break in 8 Ball, you make three solids and no stripes. All things being equal (balls being tied up, the position of the 8 Ball, etc.): Would the run out probability be higher shooting solids or stripes?

You really need a table layout to get a good answer. Depends on how the balls are placed on the table.

I will take whichever one has a duck to start with :)

Ok honestly i would take whichever has the easiest pattern to the 8.

The pattern is the key. If "all things equal" means nothing is clustered, everything is open with a good pocket and nothing is blocking needed position routes.... solids. Running 4 is easier than running 7.

I'll take stripes. There are more contact point targets on a striped ball. The six ball being the one with the least amount of contrast, assuming green cloth, is not yours to worry about. Again, we assume that each group is equally easy to run.

This is what I was refering to in my earlier post. Is there any credence to this line of thought???

:)
