CJ Wiley's New Blog

CJ you going to start playing the pro tour again or just smaller events? Also, you still get in action or you dont gamble anymore.

I want to start playing some pro tournaments, but there doesn't seem to be a Pro Tour these days....just a few random tournaments.....I haven't stopped gambling and played a few guys when I was in Vegas, but didn't really play very well...the challenge for me is playing consistently and without that it's difficult to play at any super speed....right now, this documentary and filming some new videos is keeping me busy.

Wow, I have been waiting to hear this news for quite a while! I grew up playing in your pool hall here in Dallas. Since you moved on, we haven't had a pool hall near your standards. I look forward to seeing Ben Tubbs taking care of cues again there, Roman chasing action, and playing on well maintained tables.
Please let us know when you have it up and running! Glad to hear your back in the game again. Welcome back.

You certainly know the old CJ's Billiard Palace scene....I still see Ben and Roman around once in awhile in various places, but there really isn't any good tables to play on in Dallas right now.....I've had several offers and checking out various locations....I want to be centrally located, maybe somewhere off 75 or 35....just depends if I go for Lewisville, Dallas, or maybe even Sherman...I'll give it another month to decide.

Earl Stickland's Million Dollar Pool Match

Earl got paid on that run? I thought there was a settlement, but from what I had gathered he didn't get the money that he was due and the lawyers got most of it. I never heard the amount because of the confidentialality of the agreement, but it wasn't near what he was due for the performance he gave.

The Million Dollar Annuity (50k for 20 years) was worth 630k CA$H at the time of his win.... they never tried to pay less than that, it was more of a matter of WHO was responsible for the payment....you see there were more than one party involved (that's one of the things no one knows....yet)....so he did get his money and some of his legal fees were paid, but not all ...all I can say at this time was he was very happy with the outcome and it IS AND MAY ALWAYS BE the most money ever made in one match of pool (especially on the first day of a tournament). Everything will be covered in the Documentary I'm filming which will be out in OCTOBER......CJ WILEY www.cjwiley.com

Is smoking a consideration one way or the other ? I think somewhere in Plano/Richardson 75/190 area would be great. Of course I live in Sachse  Seriously though.

I would be thrilled to follow the evolution of your wardrobe alongside that of your career - from the outrageous get-ups worn in the "olden days.. back when you could earn an honest living from pool" to today (Affliction?). Pool innovation is at its peak and the merchandise is not far behind!

(possibly the Korean dragon?)

I got into the whole "Affliction Style" when I was in the nightclub biz for 9 years....there was Ed Hardy, Christian D. , etc. and at the time they seemed cool, but have since fizzled out....honestly, when I returned to my first pool tournament I was disappointed with how the player were dressing these days.....I remember going to a tournament as a 18 year old and seeing "King James" Rempe, Miz, Varner, Hopkins, Davenport, Hall, Lebron, Sigel, Stickland, Varner etc ALL DRESSED super sharp and/or classy and the atmosphere FELT LIKE SOMETHING SPECIAL.....I, personally like the suit/tie/vest look....allowing flexibility and personal style for the players....if pool does well again in the BIG MEDIA it must return to this or something similiar (in my humble opinion) It's a classy game and the players have an obligation to represent it in such a way, or it may continue to fizzle out.

I like that area...the Billiard Den and I guess Wizards are the only place to play in that area....75 and Walnut Hill has some places as well.....I'm also looking to buy an existing room or partnering up with someone as well....I like the idea of having a couple smaller ones rather than doing what I did with Carsons Palace and having one that's 24,000 squ. ft....that was too big and a classic "having too many eggs in one basket" scenario.

RKC is too modest in his remark. No Real King Cobra does not just work on pool tables. He's a g.d. engineer of pool tables and the finest in the country, one of the reasons Diamond has retained him for design details. He's also famous for improving Gold Crowns or cobracizing them as he calls it. He's also a former owner of a pool hall and has some worthwhile business ideas regarding their functioning.
RKC/ Glen is in high demand so I would work something out with him quickly if possible. I may have one of the few cobracized gold crowns in Dallas; if you'd ever like to check it out, let me know.
On top of his amazing work on pool tables he's a great guy. If you want the best playing tables in the states, bring in Glen.

That's good to know....I'm used to FaceBook where you can get an idea who everyone is, but on here....well, I'll just have to get familiar with who's who. I would like to see a "Cobratized" table ... sounds interesting, and I have several Gold Crowns, that may need that in the future :) thanks

Will you be offering fashion advice on your blog? Your look is totally sexy and fly, unlike, for instance, that nerd John Schmidt.

... be nice, he's a straight/pool player :boring:

I'm a bit biased because I've got to hang out with Cj a few times and know him personally, but I would say he contains as much knowledge about the game, and all of the mental preparedness that goes into it, as anybody I've ever talked to.

Members should really take an opportunity here and get inside the mind of a champion.

I could go on and on about stories but I don't wanna spill the beans for everybody!

Really nice to hear the facts about Earls Run!!!!!!!!!!

This is really cool of ya Mr. CJ Wiley .mark Thanks in advance for all comments!!

CJ, you've come a long way fashion wise since I saw you the first time in Columbia, Mo. You were wearing I believe jeans or sweatpants, a red sock hat [which I never saw you remove all weekend], and a fleece jacket. I believe you were with Rusty it was probably around 83-84.

Ryan, I think you have the only Gold Crown in Dallas I've worked on if I'm not mistaken:grin: tho I have worked on a few others in in the state;)

Earl and I had known each other for a few years when this came about--I had gotten off of the road and had settled down and was going about a different life style. Earl was going to be in my area and was giving an exibition and it was up to me to be the whipping boy--3 sessions of race to 11--score was 11-9, 11-8 and one in my favor 11-9--he went a little crazy--this was about the time he made the run out that gave him the cash and I was thinking to myself that he needed that to set him free--I thought at the time he could make it through the years and be OK with just this one deal, much less what came afterwards, I played golf with him a month or so ago and spent a few days together running around and I never approached the subject--Thanks for the info though , still hoping him the best

Forgive my ignorance, as I've been away from the game for almost 15 years.....till last year.

C.J., is your video a new instructional or is it one that's been around for a while? I'm curious about it.

What instructionals have you made or is this the first one?

Again, sorry if those were stupid questions. Glad to see you come aboard on AZB.

I made a three part series after I won the ESPN World Open called CJ Wiley's Ultimate Pool Secrets, then a few years ago put all three on one DVD under the same name....there's more info. at www.cjwiley.com

I'm currently working on an Advanced Secrets Series AND the Documentary covering Earl Strickland's 11 Rack run to win the Million Dollar Challenge....It's being suggested that I do one on Alignment and Aiming, but that would be in a downloadable format available online.

I'm interested in all of that. Particularly the Alignment and Aiming. When do you think that might be available?

It was going to be part of my new DVD, which is coming out in October, but to do this one special I could have it up in a week or two....just depends on what I think the demand might be....I'll play it by ear

Yes, places like the YALE CLUB were a far cry from the Columbia Billiard Center.....and I'll always remember where I came from.....I got a lot of seasoning with Craig B., Donny, Phil, Rick T. , Tom D. and the crew on 9th Street :)

I suspect this is one of the things that may be happening to you.

I've seen top players fall out of their stances, and immediately their ball-pocketing suffers. I've watched them turn to aiming systems and other things to try to get back their ball pocketing skills, but eventually, those systems fail them because it wasn't the cause of their problem in the first place.

Start with your stance.

Fran, this is probably one of the best posts I've read.

John

CJ I suspect some players dont know how to get into a correct stance so that their shooting arm naturally comes down inline.

So, I'm all in on the alignment and aiming instruction.

Thanks

John
