I close stuff all the time. Specificly, what thread are you asking about?
If you're asking about the thread on Kevin Varney's cue, I felt it should close on a reasonably high note.
I am seriously considering eliminating any debate in a wanted / sale thread.
That is not what those threads are for.

...would not have a direct impact on any pool-related item that may be posted in 'Wanted/For Sale' section. Also, things like opinions and pricing on say stack leather wraps, and other topics related to cues and cases and other equipment could be discussed in such a section....freeing up bandwidth for what the 'Wanted/For Sale' section was originally designed for....buying, selling, and trading of pool-related equipment.Lisa

Hey Lisa,
I'm not quite sure I understand the need for this section. I know what you mean as far as getting this type of talk out of the Wanted/For Sale section but I'm not quite sure how this would be beneficial to ALL parties.
It seems, and maybe I am wrong, that a discussion like this will only help potential buyers and quite possibly hurt potential sellers. I guess, with Joe also backing this idea that he doesn't see it as a bad thing in terms of selling but wouldn't something like this basically take the price determination out of the hands of the sellers/cuemakers and place it with the people who participate in that forum?
What if someone, such as Varney who's reputation seems to have taken a little hit, prices his cues at "X" but because the general consensus is, "we don't like the guy", everyone decides to set the prices for him? Varney is only an example, it could be anyone. Would it be fair to tell someone what they can and can't sell their items for?
IMHO, I don't see the need for this. I think if we all, myself included, showed a little restraint and respect for those trying to sell something, it would all work out in the end. Besides, if someone is really serious about buying something but isn't quite sure the value is right, they can always do a search of the forums or PM people they know who have used the product.
Who knows, maybe I am completely wrong here but I see these as potential pitfalls and also see that section turning out to be the most venemous of all.

The weird thing is that Kevin's posts about his cues rub me the wrong way. But I think that is probably my problem; egos in my face get my goat. The man thinks his cues are the nuts. And linen wrap sucks (
). He should believe in what he does for a living. And I applaud him for that.I shouldn't trash him or his cues for because he rubs me the wrong way. I should judge them when I get them in my hands and try them out. Then we can talk about them over a cold beer and agree to agree or disagree.
Trust me, I've typed some things on here that I am not proud of... and posted a lot of them that I am happy with. I ain't sayin' "kumbaya" or anything. But, we all love this game and all (well most) of the associate things. Let's share and argue respectfully and most of all . . . .

I think Joe's idea for a 'Cue Talk' section is more along the lines of discussions that might include opinions of different cuemakers, such as 'x vs y'...we see these types of questions on the Main and Wanted/For Sale all the time.
I do not think it should include discussions on pricing on a cue currently listed in the Wanted/For Sale section....BUT, could include general discussions about a cuemakers pricing and/or value in general...or the quality of craftsmanship, or design execution. The neverending tips questions could go there. Aftermarket shaft questions. Discussions of various shaft tapers....cases and casemakers...who does the best refinishing...who does the best wraps.
And let's not forget the 'Please help identify this cue' that seems to pop up all over the place. Collections and collectors could be discussed. Neat stories about vintage cues.
I think a section like this could help clean-up not just the Wanted/For Sale section, but some other sections as well. I can remember a discussion recently in the Main section about various woods resonance in cues that could have been in the 'Cue Talk' section. And let's not forget the ever hotly debated CNC vs non-CNC topic.
I think I am trying to see the bigger picture for this section, and not just it's relation to cue pricing.

if it was the same discusion what difference would it make where it was?

what about the guys that come on here trying to sell plain wood cues, no inlays, points, and smetimes no rings, for $1200 when we all know no plain cue is worth that. Sure some woods are beautiful, but plain cues don't take much work compared to other inlayed pointed ringed cues that you can also get for $1,200.
Should we just let these borderline 'con men' put it out there with no comment or feedback, or tell them they are off their gourd? I DO WANT AN ANSWER TO THIS. Are we entitled to give our opinion or not?
