Well, I spent most of my years on Green cloth. I was very resistant to change and when blue cloth started becoming a thing, I actually changed the hall I played at, without ever even trying the blue, or giving it a chance. Eventually there was no choice as Blue took over everywhere. After some time on it, my experience seemed to lend credence to the research Greg at Diamond did that showed Blue was easier on the eyes and to play on. Contrast is better and easier to see edges of the ball than Green.
Grey came about due to Emily, and learning my lesson from the Blue, I tried it at a place that opened over in Virginia. There’s a contrast issue with that color between the cloth and balls. The owner where I play put in a new table with Grey on it, and we took a collection to get the cloth changed and cover the cost of changing back to Blue.
At the end of the day it’s your table, it’s about what YOU like. Now I don’t go for all the “it looks better in the room”, as to me it’s about what’s best for playing the game. Color coordination with the room, or a females wishes regarding those things many of you endure because you choose to have wives isn’t a consideration to me, but you do you and be henpecked. Pick what you like, but to me Blue is the best for play.
