I heard that Comet Billiards is closing because their lease is up and the landlord wants too much money. Has anyone heard of this????

If this is true then we are losing a great place. Many pros say this is the nicest place. Very well laid out.

I heard this two years ago or so. I think they overcame their problems.

Would be a damn shame if they closed. What a great room!

It's a horrible location for any business-no store front at all. We shall see.

It is a very lovely pool room. In particular, I love the color scheme, and that juke box has some of the BEST tunes, quite a variety. The equipment is first class, with plenty of room between the tables for the players.

I hope they work it out! What a shame! :sorry:

was up there last winter, nice room indeed, but they should serve beer/wine and they would get more of a crowd. I don't drink a lot, but drinking water and soda just gets old after awhile. great room though, hope they survive!

There used to be a Greek joint next door that sold beer, though you had to drink it outside if you got some. :grin-square:

I'm not certain about this - I'm sure there are others that know far more than I do but I believe there are some county laws Comet has to deal with. I thought, though I could be wrong, there was a law about the number of tables they're allowed to have which is why it's so spacious there.

Joel...I was at Comet, for several hours, the night before I got to the SBE. I spoke with Bill Haley for quite awhile, about several things, and he gave NO indication that his room is closing. We did talk about how tough the poolroom biz is, though. He did mention that he was not able to go to VF this year, due to his other employees playing in the tournament, and he had nobody to work!

That's good news. I would really miss going there for the great tournaments.

the tri-state tour still has their season-end invitational tournament schedule there so i think this is just a whisper-down-the-lane type rumor.

Ummm

Comet is a great room, it would suck if that room went down...

Bill and Marcia Haley are two of the nicest, pool friendly room owners you'd likely meet. The do a lot to support some of our local regional tours like the Predator 9 ball tour, Blaze tour, Tri State tour, as well as local leagues. Pat Fleming also has his entire Accu Stat studio set up there too, so you can watch the weekly tourneys streamed live on Ustream. www.cometbilliards.com

BTW, I just got off the phone with Bill Haley...he mentioned that business has been slow, like 90% of the country and he EMPHATICALLY said that this is 100% NOT TRUE. He's in good shape and if fact, business started picking up a little in the past couple of months.

I talk with Bill Haley with fair regularity in the past several months due to his much appreciated support of the NCS. I have always respected him and his beautiful room. I would imagine that if there was validity to this rumor that he would let us as CSI know.
