Common misconceptions

The leather is tanned with chromium bromide.

I should clarify this a little. Generally, soft leather tips are tanned with chromium bromide, which gives them the slate blue color. Elkmasters are tumbled in Master Chalk to knock down any rough edges. They are not impregnated.

Fast travel speeds also shocks the wood more than 6 minute passes over 30 inches. Wood is wood no matter if it is a laminated or natural blank.

I have seen laminated shafts warp just as much as straight maple shafts.

Buy blanks from a reputable source and take your time turning them.

I ordered some flat laminated blanks once and the blanks moved more than straight mapld. Plus, i lost a couple because they just kept moving, wood will do what it wants, its a natural product.

I am of the understanding that pro taper has more climb that pulls flesh in a closed bridge from the tip to +12" or 15".This shaft taper suits players with a short stroke who milks the cow with the stroke hand. Very popular for straight pool in the day.

Today most pros have a more dynamic stroke like Shane and like less climb found in a super pro style shaft.

I agree but my experience with Predetor has been very good compared to all the others.

misconception of what makes a good playin cue

Guy comes into my new bar, we have never met. My tables are green so I want to use only green chalk. I notice he is using blue. I ask nicely if I could give him a new piece of green. He explaines that the chalk is 30 bucks a cube and will not get the table dirty like most blue chalk. After a bit of conservation, I find out he is using a piece of chalk that cost 1\3 of the price of the players cue he is using. $100 cue, $30 piece of chalk

Preds are not flat lams. They're pie lams.
My local lumber yard sells quarter sawn maple boards for some $9 per linear foot.
I can buy boards that have reached uquilibrium and cross ply them for cores and shafts if I wanted too.
Those would be much better quality thatn flat lams whics are made of cheap and different pieces glued together.
