Completed Palmer 2nd Catalog Collection

Hi Everyone,

I'm very excited. Being shipped to me today is a Palmer Model "E" I traded for with a very nice Palmer Collector from the Bay Area. It's the one cue I was missing from my 2nd Catalog collection.

I also do not have a scan of the original Palmer 2nd Catalog. So, to celebrate the occasion, I am going to re-create the Palmer 2nd catalog with my cues.

Some trivia for you. The Palmer 2nd Catalog as we call it was really the 3rd catalog. There was an interim card that was issued after the 1st Catalog showing some of the new designs, such as the M, J, and K, which were introduced before the 2nd Catalog was actually published. Some day I would like to locate that card too.

Congratulations on your acomplishment. Can you put up a ratio of what the collection is worth vs. what the original selling price was? (Not looking to find a dollar figure, as I respect your privacy)

congratulations chris. it really is quite an accomplishment to gather these cues after all the years since the were discontinued. great job!!!

Scott,

I would guess that in most cases they're worth 10 to 20 times the original selling price.

Not bad, but to put that in perspective, I would guess that Balabushka's and Szamboti's are worth 40 to 50 times their original selling price, and in some cases, a lot more than that!

Congrats! Why didn't you tell me you needed an "E"? I've got three of them... :D (yeah, right!). How long have you been at the Palmers now? What's next on the agenda?

I bought my first Palmer window cue about 4 years ago. It sat there for awhile. I became more and more interested in the Palmer story - the tie ins between Palmer, Balabushka, Spain, and Szamboti, the old Brunswick cues they used, etc.

I recognized that there was a tremendous amount of information to be researched, so I attempted to dig up everything I could. My goal was that Palmer's history be cataloged for the current and future Palmer collectors of the world and to assist them in identifying their cues.

Now I am basically obtaining cues that I am missing, trading duplicates, and buying "value" if I run across a nice example.

Due to time constraints, I can't really do a lot more at the moment, but when I retire I might like start a registry of historical cues of some sort. The idea would be to post photos and stories of the users cues - similar to this story I posted on a Model 20:

This makes the cue collecting so much more interesting and it's fun (to me at least) reading about everyone's exploits.

Ps. Seriously, about 1970. But that was just for longer than normal. The shafts were actually $8.50. Still, a bargain compared to the $150 we pay now.

I just want everyone to know that you are responsible for the fact that a decent Palmer can't be had for for less than $1,000.00 anymore. Just kidding. Congratualtions on completing this significant portion of your vast collection. I'll have a word with your wife soon. Seriously, good work! History is important.
