Well that's a good idea, but i think it needs to be a forum within itself to truly be efficient to assist others on specifics. A simple reason, everyone writes in different languagues, with different platforms, with different applications, and so on.

But i do get ur point. Nothing wrong with having a section within itself. :thumbsup

IF you only have this happen with AZB, than it must be a flaw in the website design... You'll just have to log-in manually when you switch between machines. It's really not that big of a deal.

However, I would expect that the cookies are disabled (or being erased) on one of the machines. If someone cleans up temporary files, histories, etc; from either your browser or even another maintanence application they may be wiped out...

one of the many reasons firefox has it's fans is it's adherence to web standards. internet explorer doesn't comply with these but because it's by far and away the most dominant browser, it can get away with it. the effect snowballs . a lot of people some through ignorance, some through laziness therefore code web pages that only work in internet explorer thinking they're fine. that's 'why' web pages look different in ie.

also a good idea is to install this extension. takes a split second and very convenient. adds a 'view in IE' option when you right click. very useful.

Correct. IE7 does not comply with most standards. And yeah, it bugs me when developers don't make sites compatible with other browsers (especically mine.... im an Opera user). Sure, w3c compiance is great, but not all that good looking either. :)

I downloaded the Firefox, and in that browser, MySpace page looks EXACTLY the way I want it to. :)

However, in the IE browser, there are two columns on the left which are skinny, no flush left on the print, and pretty bad-looking, IMHO. :(

I wish there was a way to make the page look good in all browsers, but maybe that is not possible.

I am so glad to have gotten the paragraph codes, though. That was cool! :cool:

Is there a way to make a website look good in ALL browsers?

I was hoping there may be a compatible way to do it. :)

Since I'm in the questioning mode, I have one more burning question I am too embarassed to ask anyone else.

If I hook up to someone's FTP space to download an audio file, do they have any capability to look at any of my files on my desktop computer while I am downloading from their computer?

In order for me to get to their FTP site, they give me a login name and password. Then I see the audio link. I am just wondering while I am there downloading if they can see anything on my computer.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses. This has been bugging me for a while now. :p

There could always be unknown security holes not yet discovered, but FTP is a one-way thing. IF the program you are using to connect does not have hosting functionality, and/or that functionality is not turned on, there would be no listening program for them to connect to.
 
It is possible to have a webpage look the same in all browsers. However it takes a lot more work than just designing it for one browser. Some possible methods are loading different style sheets depending on the users browser or inserting some special css to "fix" the page as a comment that is ignore by all other browsers. It mainly comes down to being careful with which styles you use and which mode the browser is in.

Most browsers have two modes they can operate in (Some such as Firefox, Safari, Opera... have three). And the same code can be displayed differently depending on the mode they are in.

So yes, its possible but takes a bit of work :)

Myspace can actually be customized a bit from what I've read. However it's a pretty big mess code wise... If that is what you are trying to do, let me know and I can send you some links that might can point you in the right direction.

FTP wise you should be ok. Just one thing to note, don't use usernames/passwords for FTP that you use for other things. Passwords/usernames for FTP are sent in plain text. SFTP is a much better option if you have it.

Thanks. I am looking into getting my own FTP site for audio files, and though I have an existing website, I am not sure it is big enough for this function.

I think I will have to call the host server and ask them if I can have an FTP capability. I may have to pay for more space on my existing website, I think.

Everything is going digital in my industry as opposed to standard audiotapes, and I have to find a way to send audio over the Internet to others.

Thanks. I saw the thing where it says passwords/usernames and then another selection for anonymous. I will go with the password/usernames, and set up individual files on the FTP thing once I get it up and running.

I need to find out more about this SFTP. I like the way that sounds, nice and secure! :)

Place the blame where it belongs. Websites should be designed for the standards; that is why they are there. If all websites only looked right under the Mozilla engine, you can bet other browsers will begin complying to keep their users.

What happens is that the designers themselves are designing pages for multiple browsers (or specific browsers) rather than strictly for complience. That is so they can reach the largest audience. Compliance itself, is certainly NOT to blame for sites that are "not that good looking!"

Microsoft is dominating the market, and has been for some time, when the government steps in (and it WILL happen), these things will change. But for now, they hold the largest group of users.

I heard that Microsoft just recently lost a legal battle about it's operating system monopolizing and pushing out competition; their days are numbered.

No, they cannot see anything on your computer. Feel free to store lots of child porn. :D

In order to connect to them, you use a client FTP application and in order for them to accept your connection they have an FTP server already running. Without the server, you could not connect to them. So, that means that as long as you are not running an FTP server, then they cannot connect to you with their FTP client.

Remote assistance, Remote access, and file/printer sharing settings are in the control panel under the windows firewall, I think. If you turn them all off, you'll be the safest; but generally you're good as is...I don't have mine off.

Myspace is too complicated. I have to use a web-dev plug in for firefox to get the table/div depth, etc...and it still takes a lot of trial and error!
