Confessions of a pool player, YOU!!

Cue ball draw with this?
Silver Member
What is the worst thing you did on a pool table to an opponent?

My confessions.
1) I have licked my finger and cleaned an opponents tip while he was away from the table. (When I was vey young, it was ment as ajoke and everyone in the room used to pull this one) :D :D

2) Using my bridge hand I have actually moved the cue ball slightly by pressing hard on the felt and sliding my bridge hand. :o :o

The worst thing I've ever done is not call a foul on myself during a tournament (with no payouts, just for fun). I sure learned my lesson though- I felt awful afterwards.

Dang, you disapointed me.I was expecting that you will tell us about some sexual experiences in the restroom of the pool hall.:D

Worst thing I ever did to an opponent on the pool table. I once played a guy who would only bet $5 a game. He refused to raise the bet, but also would not quit until I did, or so he said. We played for nearly 40 hours and I finally busted him for $685. At $5 a game. You figure it out. And this was in 1969 or 70. So it was good money then. The time was over $50 at 90 cents an hour.

I went home and slept for 14 hours straight. But woke up with my pockets stuffed with cheese. haha

Ever Use Cue silk?

I took a guy's cue, I told him, that I could bestow a magical power into his cue for Monster english. The day before I had been experimenting with ball polish all sorts of stuff, and I had some cue silk I used on my shafts on occasion. So I tried some of this stuff. The cue ball would slide like 3 feet, and then come back HARD. it was amazing...lol. anyhow this guy is really cocky, and I constantly have to demonstrate a full table draw, so I walked over to the counter, picked up the cue ball with the cue silk on it, while he was in the rest room, then I started on him with the magic stuff, OFCOURSE he called me a liar bla, bla, bla, so I said just let me see your cue, he finaly handed it to me, and I held it up to the sky and then I acted like I whispered something to the cue... I said its done.

He grabed the cue, set up a draw shot and BLAM, the cue ball slid, and looked like it almost stopped, seeminly took forever for the action to take, then it took off, I mean a really delayed reaction, well he freaked out, left the cue and I havent seen him since. :D , it wouldnt have worked so good but he was previously complaining about the lack of action on the table (the cloth was worn pretty bad) The look on that guy's face, Running out of the hall was priceless. I didnt want his cue, but I got it!

One time I was playing in a tournament and I lost in the finals to a guy I didn't like very much. He was bragging a little (I had to give him a game on the wire, race to 4, 9-ball) so I said "Let's gamble some even, if you're so good." He says sure. He f***s around getting a drink etc... and finally comes over and marks a game up. I said what are you doing? He said, you have to give me a game. I'm pissed but figure, whatever, I'll still get the first place money when all is said and done. Then I win the coin toss and he racks...8-ball. Dude! We're playing 9-ball! He says "I can't beat you 9-ball, let's play 8-ball." Whatever, still pissed.

So I break and say, "$20 sets right?" so he says "I don't gamble, let's just play for fun." Huh? Do you believe this chicken****?. He was gambling with people between matches in the tourney. So then I did the worst etiquette faux-pas of my pool career. The 8-ball was in front of a pocket, so I shot it straight in, said "Good game, I hope you had some F******ing fun."

Not proud, but I got over it.

Cheers,
RC

Once I thought I might have double hit a ball, opponent was looking at the shot as well. I didn't call the foul, though I was fairly sure I had fouled.

Other than that I don't mess with people when I'm playing.

As a joke.

I will replace a cue ball with a crazy cue ball that goes in circles as it slows down. Just as they hit the ball I will say "Wow, you really put some weird English on that ball!" As it slows down and reverses and goes in circles they look at it with amazement.

I was playing this guy I didn't like(punched him out about two weeks later) in a gameroom at an apartment complex. I had won four or five games in a row and each time he wanted to go double or nothing. The last game was for $160. Anyhow I have to bank the 8 long rail into the pocket I'm stretched across. I hit it bad but I didn't get my cue out of the way fast enough. The 8 rolled right down the side of the cue and into the corner pocket. When I looked up at him he said,"You lucky ****". I didn't call the foul, picked up my money and left. Not feeling guilty I might add.

I practiced that shot when I was by myself and got real good at it but never used it in a money game again. Most of the places I played wouldn't take too kindly to that if I got caught. Johnnyt

That's 17.125 an hour. Pretty good wages in 1969.

When I first started playing pool, I only knew 8-ball. Playing an opponent on a nine-foot table, if they were at one end, I was at the other... putting their pocketed balls back on the table.

I would reach into the pocket at the opposite end of the table, grab one or two of their balls, and slyly slip it back onto the table.

We were just playing for fun, but it still tickles me to think about it.

I get knobs like that all the time...I flip the coin and it's "Let's play something different"..."I don't gamble."... "I don't have any money."

Jay, you don't look old enough to have been playing pool, much less gambling, back then!!

I've done that with mine !

worst thing I ever did was forfeit a match because the guy I was playing was SUPER slow. I was in dead pop and could care less about going through the losers side at the time. I just didn't want to get into a funk getting slow played. It worked, I happened to win that one, but I did feel like a tool for doing it. To make it worse the guy is a friend of mine and we actually were golf partners in tourneys together in the past.....

hey, this is like confession at church!:)

I feel better

Well, one time, this guy hit a bad shot and the 8 looked like it was going to go in early (playing 8 ball), but it just sat on the lip, so I blew it in. I told him that was a good blow job, not realizing what I just said, and his face turned red and he couldn't shoot after that. :p

Another time, I was on the Ross Schafer TV show (I was actually on it twice), and the movers dropped the table so one side was bashed in. Ross played a game with me and he broke and didn't make anything, so I talked about my strategy and patterns on every shot, to complete a runout. I had to kind of play position so that the bashed side wouldn't show up on camera.

Everything was going smooth except for position on the 8 (playing 8 ball). I got snugged right up to it with about a 1/4" gap.

Knowing he didn't know anything about pool, I shoved right through it with english and pocketed the ball. Table run on TV, woo hoo! Only problem was, several pool players saw the show and gave me grief over it later. :p

foul

In a tournament once, I didn't hit one of my balls first (it was close though) and the guy asked if it was a foul. I told him "No", I hit mine first. He just shrugged his shoulders and shot were the cue ball layed.
