Congrats to Efren Reyes he wins Pac-Man 2 event

he's the best there's ever been
this wasn't even one pocket and he still beat everyone
with his "weak" 10 ball break, and at age 60, too damn good

In his 2 streamed matches on the final day of the event, Efren broke dry 13 out of 19 times. Years ago, I think Efren had sort of an average pro-level break. Now, it's surely below average. Imagine if he, then and now, had an above-average break!:yikes:

pulpul had been around... won gensan leg of sen villar event back 2008 and close on W10 that most PI players boycotted. abit unpolish in some ways

The story back in the day was Efren would give any American the 7 ball for however much they wanted to bet if Bustamante could break for him. The list of Americans at that time included Hall, Strickland, Archer, Sigel, etc........ No American took him up on the offer.

Congrats to Efren...

I was talking to Alex a while back and we were discussing that Efren was just as capable of taking down a big tournament now as he has been in the past, so I'm glad to see him showcase that..

It sucks IMO that his win has to be marred with all the BS that this tournament has had due to poor sportsmanship and lack of clarification of the rules.

I think this is an urban legend. I've heard Efren say that he never beat Buddy Hall when they were playing for money. It was on one of the TAR Podcasts. One of the ones where Efren and Shane were on.

Awesome. I couldn't help but smile when the audience started laughing and cheering when Pulpul bricked the 6. I also couldn't help but laugh at how Efren called the pocket for the 10  Gotta love The Magician :)

It could be an urban legend but there is a huge difference between Efren's break and Bustamante's. If you give Efren layouts often where he has to navigate 6 or 7 balls to run out without clusters vs 8 he is going to run out much more often.

This is similar to when Shane played Mike Dechaine a race to 21 a couple years ago in 10 ball. Dippy Dave broke for Shane as a handicap. Shane still won but it was 21-18 if I remember correctly. Change from a great breaker to only an average breaker and the whole complexion of the matchup changes. Maybe with how he is playing now Mike Dechaine would play that game again and win.

MD won that set. It was for 3k.

Not a legend.
He said that at Hard Times around the early 90's.
There were champions there . Buddy Hall was way past his prime by then.
Efren and Archer took turns in winning tournaments then.

Congrats to Efren.
As funny as this might sound, the tough playing conditions I think favored Efren.
He adjusts to the conditions better than most pros.

Efren has said on more than one occasion that Buddy beat him for the money in the 80's, the first time in Houston after Efren had been hear for a few days and Busted all the champions. Buddy said that they only played a couple of times after that.

Buddy and Efren are near the same age, Buddy just stop taking care of himself. I don't know if he's lost weight, but I love his game, wish he was still playing.

Buddy gained a lot of weight in the 90's.
I saw him play a few times. In Sand Diego, Las Vegas and LA. You could hear whistling sound when he breathed and walked around the table.
He did win the US Open late 90's. But, his game suffered a lot then.
Efren was getting real strong after he won the US Open.
Player of the year one year and only lost to Archer on one other year b/c he missed two PBT events.

I hope Buddy gets better b/c last I read here, he's not healthy.

Oh Yeah !!

W.W.E.D.?..... Just WIN ! Awesome at 60! By far, the greatest EVER!

Varner went to the Phillipines during his prime, played three sets over a few days, and won on Efrens home court....but that by no means diminishes the quality and great character of this true Pele' of pocket billiards.

We are so lucky to have him around for so long, he's like the PGA's greats that came before Nicklaus and Palmer, tho those two had Game. No Unlucky Monkey on his back this final eh?

Congrats efren and Merry Xmas to you and friends. Hope Jay's doing OK.
