Congratulations to George Breedlove. The man doesn't have the word "QUIT" in his vocabulary. Thanks George, for showing us what champions are really made of: hard work, determination, and a spirit that never quits. You made a lot of us very proud with this win. We wish you the very best on the IPT.

I have been rooting for this man ever since DCC. Class, character, skill and the fight to win...that's what great competition is all about.

Amen. Maybe watching the winter Olympics got me a little more nationalistic than I usually get, but I found myself really pulling for the American players (George and Robb Saez in particular) and was delighted to see George get his card after a real dogfight. It almost had a little of the Mosconi Cup drama to it. From all I've heard and seen, couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Robb, you're next!

George, The Giant Killer!

I admit it, I pulled for George all the way. A more class act in Pool you will not find. Let me tell you, it takes a helluva man to be married to a Superstar. He must be totally confident and comfortable with himself.

George epitomizes the working man pool player. No pizazz to his game, just get down and dirty and make those damn balls. George works hard every rack. That's why most players relate to George. They've all been there.

I'm so glad too, to see a member of the Breedlove family on the IPT. I'm sure Jeanette is more thrilled than anyone. I can see her beaming right now. Like headlights. No, not those headlights. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
This must be very satisfying for her, as she so much wanted to be on the tour. So now Jeanette can mop up the WPBA and George can take his place on the IPT.

I look for Jeanette to have a big year on Tour.

Once again, congratulations to one of Pool's good guys, George Breedlove!
He joins another class act in Oliver Ortmann.

By the way, before he hurt his shoulder, George may have possessed the most powerful break in Pool. He could hit 'em so hard the sound hurt your ears, it was a such a sharp crack. If he gets that working, the full rack means nothing to him. He'll explode those balls.

I, for one, hope he is fully healed. And Jeanette too. I always liked the way she was so willing to mix it up with the guys. And beat 'em too, remember Derby City 2005.

I haven't seen this much drama in a pool tournament since, well, since never.

All these great players at one place and people got to see them compete for only ten bucks. Did I hear someone complaining about that price?

I'll venture to wager that that was the first time a pool room owner actually made money by holding a tournament.

I wonder if Rob Saez will make the trip to Weert. Such a shame to play so well and come up short. 4th out of 78.

I was lucky enough to be there in Country Club to witness both tour card matches. Although I was rooting for Kiamco to win, I couldn't help but be a fan of Breedlove watching him play. Breedlove is a total class act, and like he himself said, he's a "working's man" player. After he won his match with Boyes, I heard his mother in the audience say that he's a full-time carpenter, and he owns a carpentry business with about 8 people working under him.

His last match with Boyes was classic. He had no quit in him. After being down 5-8, he never showed signs of giving up. After he pocketed the last 8, he was so jubilant and emotional. One cannot help being a fan of his after watching him play. Congratulations to George!!

On a comical note, has anyone ever seen his power break? After he strokes through the CB, his body does a funny little jig thing. You should see it for yourself. :)

Well done to George, he must have played brilliantly from 8-5 down to come back and win........thats what Chapmions are made of.

I hope my mate Karl goes on to win in Weert in 2 weeks time, although it will be very tough for all players involved.

Karl Boyes was also a pleasure to watch. He was such a gentleman while playing (same can be said of all the English players). Cell phones went off on his stroke maybe three separate times during the final match, but he didn't lose his cool like other players would. He will definitely be on the IPT tour eventually. Good luck to him in the European qualifier!

I would have liked to see another English guy make it, true gents as you say ;)

It looks like all those lessons with williebetmore paid off for Breedlove though! :D

I remember hearing a long time ago that George would practice his break for hours at a time. Was his shoulder injury pool related?

Didn't George call a foul on himself at the DCC? He seems like the kind of guy who deserves to be on the IPT - and the exact type of guy the IPT wants to represent them and the game.

Just to address some issues above:

I second all of Jay H.'s notions, except the pizzazz issue. George has some serious firepower, and is a VERY aggressive player. Anyone who witnessed his performance at DCC has to agree that his top gear is definitely world class. If he ever gets serious about pool, we are all in for a treat. It was a great disappointment to me that more people did not see some of George's DCC runouts, because there was no one in the building except Efren that was playing that kind of aggressive offense (short race 9-ball really encourages conservative play, even from the world-beaters). P.S. - I have an Accu-Stats match of George with Jay H. commentating (?George beating Mike Sigel??) - good work Jay.

To TheOne:
I've asked for a percentage of George's IPT winnings (I did rack balls for him a couple of hours, playing the ghost, in preparation for the Massachussetts qualifier) - but I'm not sure I'm going to see any of the cash.

To Bud:
George once dislocated his shoulder while breaking. He breaks at about 60-80% of full power for control purposes. He can still go for 100% (he did it at the mini-Black Widow Experience for the radar gun), but there is certainly some risk of recurrence at that speed.

Against Alex Pagulayan at the DCC IPT qualifier at hill-hill George called a foul on himself with a runnable table for both players (the winner almost assured of an IPT spot).

To Spadevil:
In the final match against Boyes, George was down 8-5, won a close game, then ran the last 4 racks (reportedly a couple of high powered runouts).

I say go for 60%, you built him up willie! :p

Congratulations to Breedlove and Kiamco as well, they must both be ecstatic about making it on the tour!

If people think that pool room made money. try again i heard that the IPT gave them that crappy cloth for 15 or 16 tables and they had to pay out of there pocket to have it installed then in return for the free cloth they had to by all SARDO racks.
How many of those racks do you think L .Sardo sold before the IPT started forcing all the room owners to buy them?
And that room is one of the largest and cleanest rooms i have ever gone to. that $10. entry fee may not have covered the $4000.00 to $5000.00 cost of setting up and staffing an event of that size.
Every tour pays green fees not the IPT they didnt pay them a DIME!!!!
For a tour that charged $2000.00 per player and spends that much money to build a rep and that gives away so much bonus money you would think they would take care of there Qualifing rooms.

I agree! George is definately a class act!

Funny story!

I played George once back about 1987 in a small tournament we had in my poolpoom (Royal Family Billiards of Oakley, in Cincinnati). I'd recently recovered the 9' Gold Crowns, but my cloth supplier was trying to sell me on a certain 100% Wool Directional cloth. He gave me one bed & rails to put on a table to see how it wore and played compared to the commercial cloth everyone was using back then. I wasn't directing the tournament, (If I had been maybe I would have had a better draw! Just Kidding!) but I drew George the first round and we ended up on the "Trick table" with the directional cloth. I ended up winning that match, because George could not figure out the table speed. The directional cloth had him rolling long one way and short the other! He played very good position normally, but kept hooking himself and either giving up a shot for an easy out or Ball in hand. Normally George should have been able to spot me the 7 and maybe even the breaks, but that directional cloth had him totally screwed up. I then beat Jason Miller the next round I believe before going the next two and out! Of course Jason was so young then he wasn't even old enough to drive!

just more hot air!

TheHalfofTwo,
Yes, I taught him everything I know (it took almost 45 seconds of my valuable time).

Hey come on willie I'm only teasing les not get carried away! :D

Here's my theory. Giving lessons to Williebetmore helped restore George's passion for pool, and was the driving focrce behind this wonderful accomplishment. I can tell you from experience that just being around Williebetmore makes you take your pool game more seriously.

Seriously, though, this is a wonderful moment. I'm lucky to count George as a friend, and I know he's going to make this great opportunity count. I know this is also a great moment for Jeanette, and the wide smile I'm wearing as I write this is for her, too.

Them Breedloves play some pretty mean pool, don't ya reckon?

SJM,
As usual you were very diplomatic, but in this instance TOTALLY WRONG. What you should have said was that just being around me makes anyone feel good about their game (in comparison to my feeble attempts at pocketing more than 2 balls in a row).

All kidding aside, I would expect big things from George on the IPT if he decides to take pool seriously.
