Congrats to our Own OMGWTF 2nd Place US Amateur

One thing I admire about OMGWTF is that she doesn't give a shit about the expectations other people lay on her.

She's unsatisfied with 2nd place. I get that.

She doesn't want to pose for a picture. I totally get that.

Some people think she's a poor sport and "classless." Well, they're the ones coming onto a congratulatory thread to insult her. Seems like that's the definition of classless right there. What else do you do? Go to graduation parties and tell the grad that the college he's going to sucks?

For sure OMGWTF proudly stomps to the beat of her own drummer.

Some folks are really intimidated by that quality in people. Add to that that she is a female and all the expectations males are willing to have regarding that characteristic, and yeah, she rubs some chumps the wrong way (another great feature of her).

I was taught that all judgment of others is actually self-judgement in disguise and when Ctwitty's posts are viewed in that light, his motivation to post negatively in a laudatory thread perhaps become clear.

One thing is for sure, there is NOTHING that can possibly be positive enough in the world that some chump on AZ won't find a way to dump on it.

Everyone lambasting OMGWTF, here's a little nugget for you. SVB has THROWN AWAY MORE TROPHIES FOR WINNING, THAN OMGWTF WILL PROBABLY WIN PERIOD. And we all praise him...

I'm with OMGWTF, on this one. Don't rub it in that I got second. Just is what it is. The win should be about the winner anyway.

No one to show the trophy to anyway. No kids, no husband or friends that care to see another player's 2nd place trophy. Just another thing to dust off.

As for the picture, I might have been a bad hair day.:) Who really wanted or cared to see a picture? Errr...what does she look like?

Now its back to work to save money for the next OMGWTF pool related odyssey.:)

Both of those things are understandable, certainly. Both can be handled in a respectful manner.

And no, I wouldn't go to a graduation party and tell the grad that the college he's going to sucks, but I MIGHT tell him that flipping off the faculty, staff, and family in attendance at the graduation ceremony was disrespectful. I wouldn't consider that an insult.

A lot of people are giving omgwtf a really hard time, but are ignoring a few key points..

Yes, all of us on AZ know who omgwtf is, and a good percentage know what she looks like.

She has a VERY popular blog, and she can get kind of raw in her blog..

Given all that, I would say I COMPLETELY understand her wanting to avoid publishing her picture out there unless she went all the way and WON some big event...I am pretty sure she tried not to publicize her identity for a long time whilst writing her blog, but these things come out, ya know..

And as far not really wanting second place, or the credit for it..

Well, I've been there... Losing out in second place in a tournament I saw as very important to me (US Army Europe - Championships), and KNOWING you were the favorite going into the final match.

It's the knowing you played jam up to get to the finals, and let yourself down when you had the chance to win it all..

In that particular case, I gave the second place trophy to another soldier who travelled with my family and I to the tournament. It would have been one thing if I played well, and the guy just beat me. But I played like total dogs**t, so I wanted no reminder of the event.

For the record, I have kept only first place trophies from my time in the military.

My motto?

"If you are a good loser... Then you're still a loser."

Lol at not posing for a picture immediately after losing a match being classless. I can think of a lot worse "classless" things people have done in money matches, regular non-final tournament matchs, or just in everyday life. Sht someone in my office just walked by and called me an Italian midget, how classless is that?!

Congrats on the finish and ignore the haters as usual!

depends if you're and Italian midget...

If Melinda did not have the blog, she would be the most not noticed person in pool.

She hates shaking hands, not winning, people noticing her and saying hi or anyone talking to her she does not know or anyone commenting on how she plays. I bet if she could, she'd enter under and alias in each tournament while wearing a fake mustache. Cesaranda Morales.

I have to say I am pretty jealous of all her food adventures and the ability to stay at a seeming 80lbs despite eating her own weight in fine cuisine every time she is on a pool trip :grin-square:

I did not see the finals but I'm pretty sure she didn't flip anyone off as she was leaving the tournament. If people took her actions that way, that's their problem.

That is a perfect description of her.

The "flipping off" remark was part of an analogy. The feeling of disrespect is real though, and it's not a one-time thing.

The fact that it's a repeated behavior tells me that either she doesn't know or she doesn't care how her actions affect others. She's reading this thread, so she now knows. If the behavior repeats again, we'll know she doesn't care, in which case I think she deserves whatever blowback she gets here. If it doesn't, the issue is resolved.

What I hear you saying is that she needs to care about you and your feelings while you completely ignore her and her feelings. I'm going to let you in on a little secret... some people just don't like getting their picture taken or being involved in any sort of ceremony. By trying to pressure them to participate or turning around and calling that person names (I don't think you have, but others certainly have) when they don't is much more disrespectful than letting the person politely bow-out.

This on her blog from her perspective.

Kudos for your sacrifice.

I took a look see... the one thing that I thought was odd is; why would Mel rent a hotel room on her own, to be close to the poolhall? That last time I played, the APA had a free shuttle service...

There is a chance that they stopped doing the shuttle. Its was a couple of years ago. The last time I went was the qualifier that Jude Rosenstock was playing too. Can't remember the exact year... Jude?

I am just wondering if you would feel the same way if she had won the tournament and didn't want to have her picture taken or be involved in any kind of ceremony. Now if she would participate only if she had won I see what she did as bad sportsmanship personally.
