Congratulations newly minted World Champion Shane Van Boening

Congrats Shane, really good for World pool. USA needed this win. No one is going to begrude SHane this victory. Was almost meant to be after the Mika comeback

yea, you could really follow the phases he went through, trying to get loose, talking to himself. cathartic, as someone wrote on here.

i don't think i have seen that in that way ever before (not counting snooker). an excellent production by the event promoter gave us a good view of this struggle towards the world title. also pool player podcast on youtube did a great job to complement this, with interviews and analysis.
All that was great but if the revenue from Streaming continues to be as bad as the live gate, I dont think they will underwrite pool events for more than 2 more years. Money Talks, BS walks as they say.

The crowd was knowledgeable and enthusiastic but still not enough of them for non pool people to be converted. In Cardiff-the venue was similar to a gymnasium-very low cost and MR had distribution rights for TV all over Asia (at least). This year it was a high cost event and i sure hope they have something similar planned for post Tournament revenue and they could but i just don't know what it could be. You can have a million views on Youtube and your check will be $2k-I cant see that covering much.

Well if you accept a non sanctioned self declared World Championship by Charlie Williams, he is. Just like my World Championship in stickball where i crushed the opposition in my backyard in 1959.
Comparing a backyard stickball tournament to the 10 ball and straight pool world championships Shane won is a little demeaning. When you open an event to players from all over the world to compete and have some of the best in the world compete that holds some legitimacy no matter who sanctions it.

There was a local person in our Facebook pool group who went live with their phone and showed the entire finals, asking people to share with their friends too. Lots of people tuned into that. Why can't people just fork over the $1 to see it for themselves and help out Matchroom?

i don't know their viewing figures on sky sports, viasat, dazn etc. but i guess that's the biggest revenue stream. the free table 2 on youtube can't possibly make much money.

Good points here. It would be interesting to know how much MR has earmarked for a pool budget, or how much they are willing to lose on pool. It would also be interesting to know what kind of deal they have worked out with Dazn as far as $$.

The big gamble, I would imagine, is that with the high production value, standardization of the game, new nineball logo,, etc. that they are hoping to create a world recognized brand and start selling commercial space on their Sky sports channels. (I don't know if DAZN has commercials, as pool is all I've watched on it. ) Watched several older UFC's on Sky and more recently BT sports and they have commercials just like ESPN does.

Dazn charges customers $99/year-takes half (guessing) for themselves and i would also guess doles out the remainder to the many other content providers based on the amount of viewers who tuned in for the event-meaning not much for pool. I dont recall any commercials on DAZN.

Shane obviously didnt consider them a World Championship. Did you hear him say he was so glad to get his THIRD WPC yesterday?
PS- Great sense of humor!

I've seen a lot of other current and former pros congratulating Shane on his win on FB. Darren, Mika, Fedor (Cuetec connection probably helps here), Nick Varner, Tony Drago, CJ Wiley, Carlo Biado, Johann Chua, Petri Makkonen, Max Lechner, Marco Teutscher, Chris Melling, Allison Fisher, Kelly Fisher, Albin, etc.

It's possible I've just paid closer attention to SVB's win, but I don't remember that level of congratulations from other pros after other W9C Finals wins.

way more expensive for me, unfortunately (viasat). 35$ a month. but i don't have to see the commercials they have on sky sports. and i watch football on there anyway.

back to the WC: i think they can get a decent paying crowd in the future. but probably not in milton keynes, and certainly not with the seating so poorly elevated. when they showed the view from the seating i thought why on earth would anyone wanna be seated back there. it should be like in the mosconi, looking down on the table.

about the city itself, the feedback i've heard from snooker fans who bought tickets to milton keynes events is that they've been a bit disappointed in the lack of facilities in and around the arena.

They need full seats more than the live gate money I think to create excitement for TV viewers and possibly grow the sport- That crook Trudeau actually paid local Actors and Models to fill the seats for some if not all his events.

But on the other hand, I am not sure something streamed can even be converted to what is necessary for TV- I have no knowledge on the subject-Just wondering. Was the WPC shown on Sky Sports TV this year as in the past when MR ran it?

yes, almost all the MR events are on sky sports. that's also why they have sky presenters (the studio guy)
