Earl...You still have a ton of supporters here on AzB, who absolutely KNOW you still possess the skills to beat anybody on Earth! You played well in this year's US Open 9Ball event, and to your credit did not have anything happen to take away from your great play. There are those that feel that it's "fun" to try to aggrivate you. That has happened in the past, and sometimes you have been unable to let that go. Not this time. You were a gentleman and credit to the sport. Here's hoping you go all the way next year, and win another crown from BB! I still would love to see you on the Mosconi Cup team! GO Earl!!!

I was really tossed who to root for with his match against Darren. One, you want to see 3-peat. The other, you want to see win yet again! Good job Earl!

Now that Earl is out, and Darren in the one loss side, I have to say I am pulling for Parica. He never did get the attention he deserved. Would be great to see him snap this off , especially at his age!

I felt the same way Neil... I was torn... I can't lie though... I was pulling hard for Earl when he made his late charge.... I felt like he could run the set out from there... Had his uber gear tempo going... It was like all the air was sucked out of the building when Earl sealed his own fate with scratch on the 8... For once in his career, Earl had the crowd behind him... Against the B2B Champion surprisingly...

Btw, Parica not being in HOF could be the biggest travesty in the history of our beautiful game....

I agree. The sad thing is how Parica got skipped over for HOF induction. He did get nominated in his last year of eligibility, but lost out, and is now no longer eligible because of his age:

It'd be amazing to see Jose snap this off, but to be honest, he has a ring of tigers to get through to do it.

C'mon guys...this thread is for EARL. There are plenty of other threads about the other players. Keep it on topic, please.

Sorry Scott -- I didn't see the fact that you're already going back and forth with JAM and a couple others about this. (I saw those threads/posts *after* I'd already posted the above.)

Yes, sincere congrats to Earl, with his renewed focus -- he seems to be getting calmer and better. Us NY'ers are helping him out now! :)

Btw, aren't you in the us open update thread going back and forth with Jam as I type this???

About the BCA which is not relevant to what's goin on at the Us Open...

Congrats Earl. I know you aren't happy with less than a win, but you played well. Always like to see you compete. Thanks.

How could a player who is still active in the pros become ineligible to get into the HoF? Parica could still win some major titles. Sure he is not the favorite he once was, but if he wins the US Open this year and that win NEVER comes into play on his being accepted into the HoF as a "player" then the HoF needs to check their bloody heads on how they limit the age of a player getting in.

From what I know Ralph Greenleaf was quite a lot older then Jose when he was inducted into the HoF. In fact I believe he was quite dead at that point.

Really really dislike the guy. Acts like a loud graceless aggressive childish paranoid redneck most of the time.

Efren Rayes has more likeability in one atom of his little finger than Earl Strickland has in his entire body.

There, I said it.

He is eligable just differet group

Since I'm one of the voters I can say he is eligible but would come up form the veterans side which is ever other year. But would still be as a player the same as Danny D last year. I would need to look but know the starting age now is 40 and believe 60 or 62 is the top then it is in the hands of the Veteran Committee to nominate.

Scott is absolutely 100% correct in his analysis. Earl has been a major force in pool for the past 35 years. In my opinion, he is one of the best players ever seen in this sport. He's a terrific shot maker, a master of positional play, a deadly safe player, and has shown outstanding innovative play when required. He plays fast and when he hits that "gear" he's unstoppable. Congratulations Earl on another great performance.

I take it you won't be bidding on my highly collectible, "First One" Earl Stricland Meucci?
