Considering a carbon fiber shaft for my Adam cue. Brands to look at??

I have an Adam cue that I purchased (I believe) in the early to mid-90's. We bought our table in late '91 so it would have been after that. I am thinking about getting a carbon fiber shaft for it. I have recently been playing with a JFlowers cue with a 12.5mm CF shaft and really like it. I've come to realize that I miss playing with the Adam cue and would like to "update" it.

The cue has a 5/16 x 18 joint. I would like to stay with the 12.5mm shaft

Looks like Cuetec has one in the Cynergy line, and Mcdermott in their "Defy" models. Bull Carbon offers one with a 12.25mm shaft that uses a removeable insert instead of a set threaded mount. I was able to test fit a Bull Carbon to the Adam cue today and it did feel really good. Any other brands/models that I need to check out?? Or am I being foolish for considering spending $400 or more dollars on a 30-year old cue??

I like Predator. They’ve been leading the pack in aftermarket shafts since 1995. They make 5/16-18 threaded shafts.

Take a look at Whyte Carbon Shafts as well. They offer a 5/16-18 in both flat faced and piloted. they also offer it in a 12.50mm. Not sure of the pricing though.

I have both the Cuetec Synergy and Predator Revo CF shafts.

I REALLY like them both.

You can't go wrong with either one.

As for "should you?"

Your cue....your money. Do what makes ya happy, and enjoy yourself!

Revo or Cuetec, don't look any other way trust me........ill justify even

Why Revo? Because they're the founders of technology, they mastered it and I also think it's the best CF play-wise subjectively.

Why Cuetec? Because evidently to me whenever I see a player uses this CF his game improves. Literally jumps a few level in front of my eyes. One story I kept telling is that I know a guy who's been playing this game for 20-30 yrs with me and I know his game inside & out, he's the type of player who will give you a chance or two in a game of nine-ball and been stalling in his game for at least 10yrs he hasn't improved then suddenly he switched to cuetec CF and he's a different player. Now he's a guy who will routinely runout whenever a game is open which wasn't the case before and I attribute this to his switch to cuetec CF. Of course if you ask him he'd tell you that he's been practicing more but this is his delusion speaking. How on earth he's been the same player for 10 yrs and then once he switched instantly within a week or two his game switched a level up, its incredible some people cannot see reality and information.

If you like the J Flowers cue, be warned that their shafts are not really low deflection. If you buy a "normal" CF shaft from Predator, Cuetec, etc... they will deflect more and you will need to adjust your aiming. I have played with a ton of shafts, and keep going back to the Predator Revo as my main shaft, but that shaft also has the lowest deflection of any cues I have tried, so again make sure you are OK with having to change how you adjust for spin.

Don't worry too much about getting a CF shaft for your older cue, the number of black shafts I am seeing lately in the past few months has jumped up a lot, I think they reached the tipping point now where they are as looked at as a normal shaft for players vs being something rare or a luxury item.

Before you buy, you should borrow or try a friend's CF (LD?) shaft / complete setup. They are quite different vs maple standard shafts and I know many players that have tried CF (multiple times for weeks of practice), including me, and went back to maple.

1. Go to a pro shop that has demo shafts.
2. Ask to hit a few with the CF shafts of guys at your local room.

Your butt should not matter since most can be made with every pin out there.

I hit with a Jacoby, Cuetec, Predator, Pechauer, and one other before buying.
I then bought a Cynergy. I went to the Revo 3 months later. Switched back to the Cynergy 3 months after that.
I am still happy with the Cynergy 2 years later. It really takes time for me to settle in with new equipment.
There are more than enough threads on here and videos on YT explaining the differences in these shafts.
Choose by what is important to you and what feels right.

I have two Adams and I had Ed Petersen (EAP Cues) make me a CF shaft.

Have you considered having your CF shaft rejointed to fit the Adam? (I assume the JF shaft has a joint incompatible with the Adam.)

I have had an off again on again desire to buy a carbon fiber shaft myself. Which I am tempered with a Mezz Ex Pro shaft. If the OP is not aware it is a wood shaft with a carbon fiber insert. You get the feel of wood with the low deflection of carbon fiber. Not being a full carbon fiber shaft it is fairly close in playability IMO.

With that in mind I am still considering a full carbon fiber shaft. Having considered this from many angles I have concluded that I will buy one from one of the big five, as I see it. That is because I may want to resell it and feel the resale value might be better on a well known company shaft.

In no particular order those are Mezz, Predator, Cuetec, Jacoby and BeCue.

For me the Ignite 12.2mm is still leader of the pack.

It has (for me) noticeably lower deflection then the Revo 12.4 and Cynergy 12.5, the deflection is on par with the Revo 11.8 and the Cynergy 11.8.

I will say that the Cynergy 12.5 delivers a LOT of power, but besides the deflection I also profer the feeling of the Ignite.

Which ever you do go for, don't get discouraged a week or two in. It may take a little time to get used to it. I gave up on the Revo shaft several years ago bc I felt like I couldn't make a ball lol fast forward to today, I use a 30" Revo 12.4. Plays great!

After reading this I checked on buying another CF shaft from JFlowers with the intention of having it rejointed (if possible). The cost of the shaft, plus shipping, plus the rejoint cost (if possible) would not be feasible. The Cuetec CF shaft would be just a bit more and would be "plug and play". Great idea though, especially since I know that I like the JFlowers shaft.

I've only ever used Predator shafts for 20+ years, If i was looking at something besides a preadator i would look at Cuetec.

I've not used a Cuetec but do have 3 Revo shafts 2 11.8's one Radial one Unilock Qr and a Unilock Qr 12.4. I've also got a Jacoby 11.8 and a Whyte Carbon 11.75 on my Viking . I like them all. My favorites are between my 11.8 revo and the Whyte Carbon.
