Constructive Criticism of SBE

Thank you. I also was looking for the English translation. :p

Scott,

For those of us with scheduling conflicts at the money line, doing a "saver" or selling a win to your opponent is common. Did it twice this year. One each way. JAM may have forgotten most posters here are not "players" and would not understand the concept.

Imagine two friends playing in the finals of a major event. First place is $5000. Second is $2000. Most players might do a $1000 saver. The winner gets $4000, the loser $3000. Very common. Best way to keep a friend or travelling companion.

Playing in the TAP event, I spent most of my weekend downstairs. The heat was tough. My main complaint though is that they only have two people at the entrance when the league events start.

TAP had 144 teams there at 8 players/team. Our matches started at 8:00am. Now consider that you have over 1000 people trying to get in starting around 7am, you would think they would have more than two people there. I kept showing up earlier each day, but the line was long no matter what.

One other suggestion is for Allen to open the show earlier on Sunday morning. Most people are out of their respective events by then and may want to mill around before they head for home. I know I played close to 18 hours each day and never did get to see the vendors/exhibits. If they would open at 9am on Sunday, I could get around to everything before I hit the road.

The lower level table area was terrible. It was hot, humid and very hard to play in those conditions and the lighting was not as good as the way the tables were set up upstairs as stated.

The tables also had mixed sets of balls. Duramith were mixed with Super Pros. Don't know if it made that much difference but the sets should be the same.

The ticket booth and bar should be closer together on the lower level.

There was smoking around the pit area. Need to have more control.

Have the perimeter rail far enough from the tables to allow some room and not crowd the player. The rail was too close along one side in the upper level.

The tables should be cleaned before the start of the event. They were as dirty as an old BB.

If you are going to add more events add more tables. Too many conflicts. Do they really need to have the TAP with all the other events?

Try to eliminate conflicts for those that are in multiple events.

Need to revisit and adjust the amateur status guideline. Some of those players in hose events are way more than amateurs. Can/should players like Ike Runnels really be considered amateur?

Have a better selection of "beer". Ying Yang and Coors Light???? I guess they wanted to keep sales down by only offering those.

Downstairs

The heat, humidity and french fryer stench downstairs was a handful to deal with. It affected play at the tournament tables as well as at the Straight Pool Challenge tables.

Hopefully the temp can be increased and the fryer can be vented or put someplace where it can be vented for future Expos.

Anyone notice the vendor portion of the expo being really dismal? Shopping wise, I could not find anything I was searching for. First place I hit was the predator booth, but due to someone screwing up their shipment, no soft cases all week. Mueller had pretty much sold out of what ever I was asking for within an hr Wednesday. I didn't get in to the expo till Thursday. I couldn't even find one of those cue extenders (alternative to using mechanical bridge), anywhere. Those are usually in just about every accessory vendor at the show but this year, nope.

Honestly, I really thought there were many vendors that just didn't bother coming back this year. Was there another rise in booth rates or something? I think I heard something like each table being, $1500 a pop?

I went once, with Ming. Very expensive trip (airfare, hotel and car rental), freezing cold, my hotel was miles away and the driving was difficult (snow and icy roads), parking was a nightmare and the pit was UGHHHH!! Just not my cup of tea, but congrats to Allen for making it what it is. I did enjoy the pro event and all the vendors. That's about it.

when i was doing a lot of trade shows 20 YEARS ago, $1500 was already an average rate for a show this size. most show-goers think they pay for the event, which is positively hilarious. the event is paid for by *vendors*, who also pay to bring in tables, contrary to many assumptions.

also, i didn't see any empty booths, so i'm not sure where the "missing" vendors would've been.

sorry was on the way out will try to clear up confusion?
Match one had a schedule conflict player "A" was scheduled to play another money round match at 5pm
He was playing 3pm senior event at 4:15 the score was 4 to 4 in the 2nd set player "A" had won the first set so he needed to win the hill hill set or the 3rd set to advance and collect 300 bucks minimum which was the loser payout for the next round!
Player"A" was also in the money in the 5pm open match and as there was more money in the open event purse decided to give up the match to the other player "B" in the senior event
player "A" went and played open match and finished in the top 8!1500 bucks
He had to make a decision on which event to play in and chose the open event!

when there are 2 events scheduled at the same time you have to make a choice and when u r in the money round u need to decide quick!
nobody did anything wrong as one match would have been a forfeit if a deal was not struck!
they will not wait for matches to conclude at SBE

No ones saying that the expo is paid off by one source, of course not. They aren't going situate empty boothes either. That would just "look" bad. I did notice certain vendors taking up more than one space sort of speak. This could very well give the illusion of a full house vendor wise. IMHO, I did find the amount of individual separate vendors lacking compared to say, 5yrs ago.

All in all I always have a good time there and appreciate Allen's effort for keeping the expo running over the yrs.

Is it me or the it did not seem as busy as say last year? I was there mid afternoon on Saturday. I remember mid afternoon sometimes it was hard to walk in between booths or just to get into a booth, this year was easier to get around, but also I was trying cues and shafts without much wait.

a. At one point it was the largest crowd I ever saw watching a $5.00 challenge table. The table limit was at the lowest yet the crowd grew to a point where everyone thought it was something..

Was there any ringers on the $5 tables? I saw a kid with his hat on backwards and a spikey haired guy that played pretty good....
