I have few Dufferin house cues(Canadian made) from 1998. I would like to have them customized a bit.
Convert to 2 piece, nice butt cap... possibly bumper less, joint collars. I'm taking recommendations. A cue maker with a decent turnaround. Quality makers/repair only. I live in Montco, Pa. Shipping is ok. Thanks,

Well, when you are in Lake Worth Fla, Dennis Searing comes to mind.

Just kidding, kind of. If you can get him to do one for you, please let the rest of us know.

Some of the old Duffs do make nice conversions.

Good Luck Bud.

I contacted DS a year ago to have a shaft made, shaft refinished and some other stuff. He never got back to me. I'm on hold for 10 years:killingme:
These are my current conversions.

you guys are great.

the exact two I was going to recommend were Joe Callaluca and Jim Baxter since I know both guys have good experience with these duff conversions.

Two others I'd hold in high consideration for this job would be Scott Erwin and Steve Klapp.

My Joe C conversion hits mighty strong.

best,

Why not Scot Sherbine at Proficient Billiards in Ephrata ? Fair prices, fast turnaround, excellent finish work. He will do basic rings.

The other one forum members have had very good service from is Paul Drexler. He can do anything you might want.

Thanks. I might use Proficient.
I realize I should ask the cue maker this...but can I cut the Duff in two for ease of shipment.

yes you can cut it but get the measurement where the cuemaker you choose wants it cut.

and, yeah, Scott Sherbine is def another great candidate to do this work.

and wth, may as well shoot you another name, Ryan of RAT cues (meullers) could fix you up really good, too.

best,

As Brian suggested, the cue maker can advise on where to cut. It will not necessarily be simple. The main issue is if you plan on using the Dufferin shafts (I would) and the thickness for the joint. If you like the Dufferin taper, which is very stiff, then use their shafts. So you will have to measure the cutting spot taking into consideration both shaft length and joint thickness, which to be accurately measured requires a caliper of some sort.

Personally I would call a couple of the people you are considering using, discuss the project and ask about prices and schedule. The simplist, cheapest thing is to just add a joint screw, prices go up from there. You may want to lengthen the Dufferin's with the butt cap, add some joint collars to make the joint stronger (a screw alone in wood weakens the sides of the joint), add a better ferrule and tip, etc. I would use a radial screw and short joint collars. The radial makes a solid connection and it is deep enough to make a very strong joint. You will have a wood to wood joint and not lose that feel you like in the old Dufferins.

I would let the cue maker make the cut. You can pick up a piece of ABS drain pipe and end caps from Home Depot and use it for shipping. Anything less, like cardboard or two tubes strapped together and you risk a snapped cue. The ABS is strong and cuts easily with any kind of saw.

By the way, I have a wall full of old Dufferin house cues. I've often thought that I should just scrap my $500 break cue and get a joint installed on a Dufferin 21 ounce - they really make a great, indestructible break cue.

I have an issue with RAT. I contacted him about doing a refinish and he never got back to me. I would have appreciated and respected him saying he does not want the job. I cannot move forward with him...yet I would have liked to.

I've contacted Ryan a few times about work, usually early in the morning.

He turned down a job to modify a McDermott D1 that I had, because it was collectible. I have no problem with that at all and he was right. I ended up selling it to a forum member that can appreciate it more than I did.

He did accept the shaft work I inquired about, but I haven't had time to mail them out yet.

below is a description and photos of a old 2pc. Canadian Duff i had tweaked.

Guido Orlandi is the best Pool Cue man I've met & I'm 71. He's a great craftsman, an ex-pro & Roadie, so he knows his stuff. He's been doing Cue things for 25 years. He has also developed a NEW JOINT that is sensational. 906-542-7069

I've had Mueller refinish about 5-6 cues. I just send in saying I need refinish with new color of wrap then a month later it's done.
He responds to messages early in am because he is busy all day.
