Corey Deuel

The players that made the cut did so via points from selected tournaments. The top 5 that accumulated the most points are the ones on the team for USA.

Unfortunately, Corey didn't play all that well this year. Morris, Dechaine, etc. have just played better overall in tournaments. I think the weakest link is Putnam, but he earned his way on, so what can you do?

I think talent wise Corey should be on the team, as Mika should for Europe, but they both apparently didn't earn it

$15450...... He's not playing like he was....

He hardly plays at all. He is basically a part time pro pool player who puts little time or effort into the game. If Corey put the same amount of effort into the game as SVB does and went out and played in as many world class events he would be a top 5 player in the world. He could have had one hell of a career, unfortunately he does not bother to put the effort in, and the state this sport is in gives him less reason to see it as a loss.

Alot of people on these fourms ask why people like me and afew others ***** about the state of the sport and why we want to see it rise in populairty, why we want to see a true professional tour, why we want to see more money in the events. People like Corey Deuel, Mike Sigel, Alex Pagulayan, CJ Wiley, and others who have/had tremendous amounts of talent that leave the game for long periods or quit it completely are a big reason. We miss the chance to see greatness from those people. And even those who stick around generally put less effort into the game, the best pool I ever saw and the most effort and practice the professional ranks put in as a whole was during the short lived IPT era when players suddenly had a real impetus to put in massive amounts of practice and try to win hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single event.

yea ita a shame really. corey has always been one of my favorite players, if not my favorite. his stroke and knowledge are impecable. i would really like to see him start playing again. i think if he put his time and effort into the game, he would be unstoppable. even for svb. just my personal opinion.

I am sure it left quite a bad taste in his mouth when the rules were changed to outlaw the soft break that he came up with.

He didn't get to pro status by soft breaking though. He started experimenting with the soft break after being pro for a while.

Dude plays well regardless of the soft break or not. Perfect example is him placing second in the US Open in 2010.

My point was that his desire soured as a result of rules being changed in order to erase his competitive advantage, not that he couldn't play w/ out a soft break.

They are adults and have a choice to do as they please.
Pro pool in the U.S. is a joke, after grinding for so many years I don't blame them for stepping away.

Most people feel that goes without saying and thus refrain from stating the obvious...

As I said in the post you quoted, I blame the state of the sport for the most part, not Corey.

If Corey really wanted to play it would be scary. I think he was comfortable for awhile and liked golfing more than pool. The world caught up to him.

I disagree. Every pro player knew exactly what the state of the sport was going in. Just like every person who works in the industry does. No one goes into pool expecting to retire wealthy. At least no one with any sense.

There seems to be some sort of a tie between pool players and golf. I have heard several times in jest that it is the same game, only a bigger playing field. Kim Davenport once earned more in one weekend, playing golf in Hawaii, than he did in a year of playing pool.

Tournament players are making more money playing poker, than a year's worth of pool. As one post stated above, the money is just not in the game of pool.

Im not talking about what if's and such, I am talking right now. Corey is probably the best 9 baller in the world. He would not be an under dog against anyone on the team in a long gambling session
