Did this cork wrap the other night.
That's the seam side.
Cork has it's quirks and what have you, but I love the way they feel.
This one is sanded but not sealed.
You guys seal or polish em?

Looks great - does it stretch any at all?

The cork little pieces won't be sealed though. I like the feel of the cork as it is. Some prefer to have it sealed with epoxy or some other sealer. Sealers will keep the cork particles clean. It does tend to get dirty fairly quickly but only to a point. Like fishing rod handles. But a clear urethane makes slight difference to the feel. Just try a piece and see what you like.
I grind finish mine, others like to sand them.
Mine are compressed rings like a fishing rod handle as compared to a wrap.

I've never played with a cork wrap, but they have always interested me. Are they as durable as a linen wrap and last as long?

For some reason, I've always thought the little pieces of cork may dry out and start falling apart.

I've seen at least two ( Padgett cues ) that have lasted years of hard use.

I have done 2 cork wraps, and do like 1) how they feel and 2) how easy it is to hide the seam and make sure it is flush to the edges. Once I did them, I sanded them flush, and then I used a couple coats of Lacover Padding Finish 30. So far they have stayed pretty clean. I will say, the contact cement I used to put them on with seemed to soften the glue used to hold the wrap together, so when installing the actual wrap. the wrap started to come apart. Took a bit of extra work to get it right.
Next one I do, tite bond will be the glue I use

Many years ago I had a PFD with a cork wrap. Loved the feel, it was not sealed.

I leave mine unsealed. I like the way it feels that way. Easy to install. My problem is taking them off. Any tips on uninstalling them...lol

If you use white glue, it'll be a real good mess.
Contact cement gel is much easier to deal with .

I use contact cement. It's works well but a customer wanted it changed to leather and it took forever to get it off. It doesn't peel off like leather. It breaks apart in little bits.
