Coronavirus and BCA Pool League World Championships

Someone should count up the number of forfeits so we can get a hard number on the amount of money they are taking from their members.

ha :grin-square: ,
as if it really mattered here in the proport capital of the world what CSI says..

...a real test for the league operator managing the pooling of schemer's,
after all, billiard players are the smartest at figuring all the angles.

There has been a sea change in concerns, health care professional opinions and cancellations just in the last week. I think if this event had been a week or two later, it would have definitely been canceled and far fewer players would have shown up.

What most companies are doing is at least giving future credit for cancellation fees, even if they are not refunding.

Allowing members who followed the advice of health experts and decided to stay away from large gatherings like the BCA teams competition to apply the fees from this year's event toward a subsequent event seems like a no-brainer.

Yes, this event was starting right around the time that other, later events were cancelling their upcoming dates. Because of the timing, I don’t really blame CSI, but they really should do something along the lines you suggest for people who decided to stay away.

I played in a bar league once 20 years ago and swore never to again.... I'm stating that to show that I am in an ignorant position regarding bar league pool.

If people forfeited, would't their entry fee and any dues they paid still go to the prize fund for the players who did show up? If true, would it still be "taking money from their members"?

That's an interesting point. In essence, they are 1) rewarding the people who ignore the doctors and health experts with higher prize payouts while at the same time 2) giving themselves an excuse for why they can't refund people or allow them to use those fees in a later event.

Doubly sleazy.

CSI says, "...our members are enjoying the competition and there are no plans to cancel anything. CSI and the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino have no reason to believe anyone at the venue is at risk..."

What is their plan if one of the players gets sick and/or tests positive for the coronavirus?
They don't have a clue. Its Vegas. Think they give a shit?? CSI is acting like nothing is going on outside the venue. Crazy. Heard that domestic travel restrictions to/from the highly affected states could be next.

Lots more players will be arriving for the team events next Wednesday. To state that no one is at risk is just plain ignorant.

kinda looks like corey..

if you have the virus, the mask can help prevent transmission
it can work the other way too but
the big thing here is that we don't have enough masks to go around
masks would do the most good (for everybody) used first by healthcare workers
think about how bad it is/would be if all our drs. and nurses and everybody got sick tryna help
firefighters here in the seattle-area haven't had masks to wear, for example
not good

CSI/ BCA needs to step up right now today (Sunday) an act responsible to the Publics' greater health interests and reschedule this upcoming weeks events. 100's if not more have change their plans due to the Federal Gov classification of this Coronavirus spreading being a National Emergency. The State of Navada has also issued a State of emergency as well and some of the Casino's have shout down large group gatherings as directed by the CDC WHO and the Federal Government.

Its is totally financially selfish and outright reckless when the Federal Government has made previsions for businesses like CSI to re-coop their loses with the $1.5 trillion funding they just put back into the market place And the additional $800 Billion congress just agreed to help the small business and private individuals make it thru this crisis.

CSI it setting the tone for its future by putting it patrons at more risk just for MONEY.

This coronavirus is unlike anything in our lifetime — and comparing it to the flu is dangerously inaccurate. This is far more deadlier than the flu.

The biggest thing the mask does is prevents you from touching your face (which is huge)

PS-make note of the people here who have said the cautious are alarmists etc so you can be sure to ignore their hunch based opinions in the future,

It will be a miracle if this makes it to the finale, with the 200 capacity rule in play all it is
going to take is one weak link with a temp one degree in paranoid land and this gig is
up, over, capuche.

It is an endurance test now,, who cries uncle first, most likely a looser.

Are there any odds, bets on when this will be called?
Will it be a player, spectator, sabotage…?
