Cortland rewrap?

rebop

Hi folks,

Just had an old Palmer refinished by Scot at Proficient. Very nice job, but I find his wrap to feel thin and slippery. Its a green spec linen, but smoother than any I have ever felt.

Does anyone have Cortland for rewraps or something close? Preferable in Northern California to avoid shipping, but will consider others.

Thanks.

He was mentioned at the pool hall today when I did some test shooting. But they did not have contact info for him.

The way you said that I assume he is a emeber here. I'll check the member list. Thanks.

Next time you have it wrapped, request that it not be pressed, or that it be only lightly pressed. If you don't like it it can always be pressed later.

sounds to me he did a ''too good'' press/burnish!!!but it'll wear off some if played with awhile

Thanks all. Message off to Kenny.

And you may be right. It could have been too well pressed. I did not think of that. But I also think it deserves a rewrap as this just feels like it would take forever to lose the slippery feel it has now.

Well, Kenny and I have not been communicating well after several tries, so I'd like to find another resource.

Anyone with Cortland for sure even if I need to ship it off?

Thanks.

Joe Blackburn has some Cortland and does a great job on the wrap. It is not cheap. He will be at the Derby. I do not have his contact info but I 'm sure someone here has it.

Just one question......Are you sure you don't already have REAL CORTLAND LINEN #9 on that cue?

Reason I ask is that one of the things with the REAL Cortland Linen #9 (this is the specific cortland people are talking about)

#9 is the Test LBS strength of each individual strand in the line, with the line consisting of 3 STRANDS...........total Test LBS strength is 27#

its a thinner and finer linen.........comes out feeling very very super smooth

if you can spin that cue somehow or get it to a local cue repair man or builder they should be able to hit the wrap with a little steel wool and give it a little extra texture without having to sand it or replace it.

You could probably do it yourself no equipment necessary.......if your going to replace it anyway then just get a little blue painters tape and make a couple wraps around the cue above and below the wrap. If it were me I'd try a medium grit steel wool first and if its not doing enough then try a Coarse steel wool....you can get a multi pack (fine/med/coarse) at wally world for like 3$

hope that helps,

Lack of communication?

The communication felt short on your part not my part. I sent you email with my cell number and told you where I can meet you to take a look at your cue see what I can recommend to fix it right. Like I said I'll be California Billiards later afternoon to meet you.
P. S.
Maybe you should send your cue back to Scott have him rewrap on your cue. I am sure Scott well fix it for you. Scott is a stand up guy.
