Hi all. My wife and I are thinking about coming to the DCC for a vacation. I would like to try the 9 ball tourney and be a member of the AZ room with playing rights. Between costs of eating and such, how much would anyone who has attended before say is a good amount to bring to have a comfortable time? Should I plan on spending a grand or more? Maybe less? Any replies would be much appreciated.

The room is about $80 a night.

The food is $8-15 per meal (usually buffets) at the hotel restaurant, or $5 for a sandwich at the snack bar across the hall from the main tournament room. Some don't like a constant diet of the hotel food (or even a brief experience), but it is better than most chow halls and school cafeterias I've been to.

Season passes are $90, and I think they are sufficient, but you might prefer the VIP seating.

There are about 15-20 vendors there selling various pool related stuff. That might take another $10 to $10,000 depending on your taste in fancy cues.

I think touring the Louisville area in January is not so interesting. I tend not to leave the hotel at all.
 
Me and a friend leave Charlotte every year and go just for the 9 ball so Wenesday through Saturday and we stay at the hotel and eat at Dennys down the street. It cost us about $400 to $500 each total including gas from Charlotte NC to Louisville and back.

there is alot more here than you would think
plenty of dining opportunities that are far better than hotel food,
one within 10 minutes of the hotel, "5th quarter steak house"
also plenty of dining along the river with spectacular views and good food.
and without any question, there are several places to tour that are
"one of" kind of places you will not find anywhere else -
the ky derby museum, the bat factory and the Ali museum (the bat factory and the ali museum are within 10 minutes of each other)
remember there is always places to see if you look.

My wife and I flew in from NY, hotel for 4 days and a rent-a-car (I didn't play in any event). It cost just under $300 per person. I got a sweet deal from www.site59.com. Unfortunately, they only do trips close to the travel time, so if you want to plan ahead, you cant use them. (They've since changed to a new name).

BUT, if you ever need a last minute get-a-way, check them out.

If you want to know where to visit then ask in my humble opinion Mr.dmyroncox he is extremly knowledgeable about the area and his recommendation are great . Louisville has many outstanding places to visit ,take advantage of your time there .
 
I live here in Louisville and if anyone has any questions or would like any dining or tourist information, just let me know. Louisville has a ton of hidden little venues that offer great stuff at a great price.

My biggest tip for anyone going to the DCC...pack a cooler and forget about eating at the hotel. The food is horrible and overpriced. Grab some lunchmeat and bread at a local Kroger and you will thank yourself later.

Other areas of interest you might be interested in: Louisville Speed Museum, Louisville Science Center, The Ali Museum, The Frazier History Institute, and for all of you music buffs out there...Ear X Stacy is a music store that has just about any cd that you ever wanted to buy. It is a real cool hippie store and they have tons of "non mainstream" music. It is located on Bardstown Road. I would check out Bardstown Road for its unique dining, shopping, and hippie venues. Cafe 360 has the best and cheapest breakfast in town if you are in the mood for it late at night. They also have hookas for you hippies.

I'm interested in going to the DCC also and maybe playing in the 9ball tourney. I checked the hosting hotel and it looks like all the rooms are already booked. Can anyone recommend another local hotel? The cheaper the better as I won't have anyone to split the costs with. (OK, not so cheap that I'll need a firearm to get to my room). Thanks. :R:

Did they offer you a room across the street at the Executive Inn? That is the closest option and the bar table events are held there as well. I would check on that option first. I do not think the rate is any better than the Executive West though.

I just started looking into going to the DCC. I was going to go to Vegas but everyone pretty much seems to agree this is the better choice. Hey, do you get seating to watch other matches if you're playing in one of the tournaments? Or do you have to pay to watch as well?

If you play in one tournament, you get a pass for the whole event, go anywhere! Many people play in the Banks and don't rebuy just to get the season pass.
 
ahh i see.. so you don't have to pay the $80 for a pass if you enter at least one event? Banks is the cheapest entry at $100 IIRC.. better start practicing banks! lol
