Hey everybody. These two 14.1 scenarios posted by alstl proved thought-provoking in the main forum. Thought I'd cross-post them here so we can get some feedback from experienced 14.1 players. For those of us who are less familiar with the game, any explanation of why you choose a certain pattern would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll do the second one first since it appears the easiest. 7,8,9,11,15,1 kind of jumps out at you. Go right around the horn and the 15 is a pretty good key ball for the 1.

On the first one, the 3 is in a bad spot( it could be used as a key ball for the 15 break but it is so far away from the 15) and the 11 could be problematical, so I would shoot the 11 first. Then probably the 3 because if I leave the 9 until after the 3, it gives me more options. I would have used a touch of reverse on the 11 and came off the rail a bit so that I could drag the cue ball back when shooting at the 3. Then shoot the 9 and come up between the 8 and the 15. I'd prefer to shoot the 15 as a break but from there, either would do.

For scenario #1, this is my offering...I don't like shooting into the side, but it's free-sailing after that.

For scenario #2, I would do as Dennis would

For me, looking at them I saw 8-9-11-3 for the first one and 7-1-15-11-9 for the second.

An alternative for the second one may be 7-8-9-11-15

I like 3anstops pattern. 8-9-11-3 for the first one.

7-8-9-11-15 for the second one.

Not a lot of cue ball movement in these patterns, I guess thats why they call him 3andstop.

Thanks Bill. :) Well the story of the 3andstop name isn't very glamorous, I honestly don't even know why it came to my mind when I first logged on here at AZ while I was thinking of a screen name. :)

Back in about 67 or 68 when I first played one pocket, it was in a pool room I went to a few times a week. They were big money games I was getting myself into. ( a dollar a game).

Anyway I was introduced to the game by one of the area's great players. His spot was to make 3 balls, and then he had to play safe.

I couldn't beat him with that spot, so I told him that he couldn't play safe after he made the third ball anymore. So, his new spot was 3andstop. :)

Every time I came into the poolroom back then, when he saw me, he said "hey, here comes 3andstop". Dunno why I recalled that silly thing. :)
