Crack or scratch?

So my old predator shaft had a crack in it and they replaced it with a new shaft..... Few weeks after I got it.... With not too much playing time on it I see this.... I cannot tell if it is a scratch or a crack.... I took some 1000 grit and cleaned it up and this is what's left....

Maybe kj would know better since he deals with predator more than most?

Just a thought, Could it be a scratch from using a well used peice of chalk, scratching along the top edge.
 
That's what I thought because of the shape but its weird that I am not able to buff it out with some 1000 or 800 grit paper....usually I can get out anyone's scratches with that......

I also refute to use chalk like that so I don't think I would have done it.....and I don't think anyone on my team did it either....I'm thinking its a crack
 
Strangely, thats not the first smiley crack I have seen. I get scratched ferrules all the time and are usually easy enuff to buff out if not too deep.

At the very least, you can take the worst of it out.

Willing to bet thats a crackeroo.
 
I would use Magic Eraser to get rid of gray look and magnify. if the scratch/crack is that deep you can't correct it without bringing it to a pencil end it does not matter which it is, you will need to replace. I guess scratch as I have not seen a crack go so perfectly round.
 
First thing I tried was the magic eraser to get chalk off and it still left the smiley face then I buffed it with first 1000, when that didn't work I tried 800 and its still there and still the same size not gettin any smaller

Looks like a crack, but you need to take a good look at it before you do anything.

This by the way, is my favorite gift for a kids of a certain age. I have been to birthday parties where the parents have spent hundreds of dollars on gifts and the kid spends the whole day playing with the cheap magnifier.
