Craziest Spots Given or Taken?

I started thinking about this after giving up a ridiculous spot to a pretty good player last night. The guy is either a 6 or 7 in the APA (not that this means anything, but for frame of reference). We jawed and jawed about weight. We came to this. The six, last two, break, and ball in hand after the break. I get $10-5 on the money. Took a while, but that odds on the money was too much for him. So, what are some other odd gaffs or spots have you seen players fade?

Some old timer-mighta been Jersey Red allegedly played even 1P where none of the balls counted that he made. The only balls that counted for him were the ones his opponenet made in the wrong pocket. SO he would huddle all the balls around his own pocket and wait. Sounds too crazy to be true so who knows?

One interesting spot, that I haven't seen in a while, is the 8 safe.
you must make the 9 to win - however if you make the 8 and not
the 9 the game is a tie. This gives you a way to match up when the
call 8 is too much weight to give and the other guy won't play even.
I've even seen "call the 8 safe".

I once saw a set of 9 ball where one guy got the 8 and the other one got the 7. That was a little different.

wow i havent heard those words "the 8 safe" in over 20 years-damn i'm getting old. it was in the pool room when i started in 85 and gone shortly afterwards

best i ever heard

two guys are trying to match up, both want the nuts, finally one guy says, tell you what you can use 2 pieces of chalk and i'll only use 1.

Not sure if this qualifies but it was a weird one.

I played a guy head's up where I had to shoot every shot with a golf ball instead of the cue ball. I got to break with the regular ball and shoot one shot per rack my choice with the regular ball. Everything else was with the golf ball.

It's amazing how you adapt. I got decent at kicking, have run a rack from the break and even jumped a ball IN with the golf ball.

We weren't playing for much, just kids horsing around for $10 sets, but it felt great to outrun that one.

I saw Bruce Berrong play a pretty damn good player with just a bungee jump cue and win. I've played people getting the hand span and a straw span. I played Danny Greer some one pocket one time getting 10-4 and none of my fouls counted against me, and lost, lol.

I have played a ton of people in golf just using my 5 iron from the ladies tees. I have to putt with it and everything. They always fall for that one. I can shoot mid-high 70's that way.

There's a guy here that offered to play me golf using only his putter. Scared me outta playin'.

Keith Mc Cready player a local kid with the break and if the kid even hit the object ball he won...
He also played a good player and would bank the 9-ball, T.C. bought out when he saw he could,nt win...

A younger player (can't remember his name but I'm sure someone on the board will know) was giving Grady something like 20-8 in one Pocket at this year's DCC.

Years ago I used to get weight for Louie Roberts.
All I had to do is drive the object ball to the end rail and I win.

Well all I can say is if you don't get to shoot the SPOT doesn't make aby difference.

Justyn Cone. I think it was 20-10.

trap game

Kenny Anderson once gave me "the rails are your pockets & the break" playing 9 ball. Every ball that hits a rail counts as going in a pocket. Only cost me 1 game to learn the cue ball counts when it contacts the rail also.

Ken

The nuts?

Richey Florence gave me "all the balls" - He got the break and 2 to 1 on the money. I couldn't win once he started running racks.

Ken

Charlie (chuck) Ford and I played several odd games once. I can only remember a couple.

All I had to do was make the 9 ball hit the end rail. It was just like regualr even nine ball except at any time if I could get the 9 to the rail behind the rack I won.
Took a few games for me to figure out some angles but then I won.

We played one pocket 8-4 but I got to use 2 pockets. My regular pocket, and a side. It was supposed to be a trap game but I won every game.
When he quit he laughed and said "I think I forgot part of the gaff!" LOL

He would regularly give up a ton of weight to guys playing golf or snooker and out run it.

Try this one:

years ago I played an extremely good player who needed to do some safety practice for an upcoming tournament.

We played 9 ball and the only way he could win was to 3 foul me.

The other crazy game I got into when I was beginning to play one pocket.

He would play me 8-6, I would get all the breaks and my scratches did not count.

He backed out a few sets later when we changed that game to 8-6, all the breaks,
and I got the shot after the break.

I was up in Philly a few months ago on business and we were having a few drinks and having some fun on a bar box after work when these two guys started shooting next to us and really talked down to the guys I was with. While not a great shooter I can run a few racks and these guys were drunk. I challenged them to a game of 8 ball, they got the breaks and shot back to back before I shot. One guy could make one or two balls and the other was like a APA 5. Took $320 off them that night, they never could get out and couldn't figure out how I kept winning.

I once gave a guy the 2,6,7,8, the breaks and the first shot on a 4 by 8 (he played pretty bad as I remember). I won about $400 playing $50 sets. Oh yeah, hey corvette, I shot 80 on the golf course from the back tee at a 7100 yard course with 4 iron.

A number of years ago I heard that Buddy Hall was giving any taker 10-2 in one hole. From what I understand it was a standing offer kind of like shanes challenge to the world for bar box 8. Don't know for sure, that could have been b.s.
