Craziest Spots Given or Taken?

I saw somebody give a weak girl player "the even up" any even ball is a winner. The "player" got torched and quit after 2 sets.

I gave a slasher who did not like his money the Wild-Called-Bank. Any called bank shot in order was a winner. This idiot would pass up on 4 easy balls to take a low percentage bank. He tried to beat me with this spot for 6 months until he moved away.

Boy I miss that guy.

I have played a ton of people in golf just using my 5 iron from the ladies tees. I have to putt with it and everything. They always fall for that one. I can shoot mid-high 70's that way.

Here's a strange golf spot.....

Years ago Maurice Bembridge, an English Pro who once held the course record at Augusta, used to be "the man" for golf money matches in Uk. He had a fantastic record against both pros and amateurs for money yet people used to travel from afar to take him on mainly for the pride and boasting rights aspects.

One week he had arranged a match with a scratch handicap amateur from another region. When the guy arrived Bembridge said "I'll give you 4 shots" match play 18 holes. The bet was 5 grand sterling, a lot of money in the early 70's.

When they arrived on the first tee the amateur said "tell you what Maurice, I don't want the 4 shots if you'll instead allow me to shout BOO!!! really loud during the match at two different times of my choosing.

Bembridge chats to his caddy and between them they conclude that the worst the amateur can do is to shout BOO!! on Maurice's backswing twice and they lose two holes as a result.......better than possibly 4 holes with the 4 shots.

They agree. Three hours later they shake hands on the 15th tee. The amateur has won 4 and 3 and hasn't shouted BOO!! even once......but on every single shot all the way round Maurice went into his backswing apprehensively thinking "this could be the time he does it...." and was spraying the ball all over the place because of the tension in his muscles and his mind not being fully on executing the shot

I started thinking about this after giving up a ridiculous spot to a pretty good player last night. The guy is either a 6 or 7 in the APA (not that this means anything, but for frame of reference). We jawed and jawed about weight. We came to this. The six, last two, break, and ball in hand after the break. I get $10-5 on the money. Took a while, but that odds on the money was too much for him. So, what are some other odd gaffs or spots have you seen players fade?

Sorry a bit off-topic, but what does the word "Jawed" means. I've tried 3 different translator books, none of them have found it. :frown:

I once gave a guy the 2,6,7,8, the breaks and the first shot on a 4 by 8 (he played pretty bad as I remember). I won about $400 playing $50 sets. Oh yeah, hey corvette, I shot 80 on the golf course from the back tee at a 7100 yard course with 4 iron.

That's seriously good as is Corvette's.....when you consider that Sevvy Ballesteros' party trick at his peak in the 1980's was to go round Wentworth (The Picadilly Match Play venue at the time and nowhere near 7100 yards) in exhibitions in about 75/76 using a 5 iron AND A PUTTER.

Just means they discussed it back and forth, talked about it basically .........it's slang really but is common in USA and even in UK to a lesser degree.

Jawed to you asbani possibly means being snookered on a ball by the jaws of the pocket?

I have gotten all the below.

1pocket:
11-3 no fouls
15-3
5 pockets to 1

9 ball:
Other player gets the break and hand-span after. If I make legal contact on a ball I win.
Break,ball-in-hand, 6 out, and the last 6
If I make three balls in a row anytime, I win
If I make 4 balls total, I win
I get ball-in-hand after any miss by my opponent

speaking of playing with a putter -
for shits and giggles a while back I hit a whole bucket of balls at the range with my putter. If you tee it up pretty high and way in the front of your stance, I was able to hit it 180-200 yards consistantly by the end of the bucket. Ame swing as a driver. direction was a little tricky, but the putter didn't put much spin on the ball so no problems with slicing or hooking. I couldn't figure out any way to hit it well without a tee though, so I have no idea how one would play the whole course with a putter - maybe a gaffed putter?

oh yeah, forgot to mention, I discoverd that you can use a 3 or 4-iron as a sand/lob wedge by hitting it left handed using the toe of the club. you gotta set the ball up in the back of your stance to negate the 4-iron's loft.

Southern translation: To talk repeatedly over the same topic without much of a result.

Playing eight ball the lesser player gets ball in hand on every shot except the last two. I've seen this a few times at my local bar.

I agree that's pretty good, but the really interesting part is you would of shot the same score with a full set of clubs

The last four

I have got the last four playing nine ball, and 12-4 playing one pocket.

It worked, they get action on those as I cant say no.

But neither one liked it....I did.

Two locals were playing. The better of the two had to wear a full face motorcycle helmet with the tinted lid down. He couldn't take off the helmet or lift the lid the entire match.

Goofy, but the guy in the helmet took down the cash.

A friend of mine agreed to get the 4 out but give the other guy 7-1 on the money...My friend quit after losing a few games. LOL

I saw Ronnie Wiseman play a fairly good B player even up bar box nine ball for $1000 a set one time. The spot was that Ronnie had to use the special long cue that is used with the special long handled snooker bridge for the 12" snooker table. That cue must be 8 feet long at least. It was a curious sight to see little Ronnie with 6 feet of cue extended behind his body trying to get out. I had something else going on and I honestly don't know who got the cash.

Biggest spot I had ever seen up front and close was when a player gave another player the 3 and out in 9-ball.

2 weeks b4 a golf trip to Kiawah Island, I busted my left wrist playing tennis. My plaster cast did not allow me to even grip a club, so I played one handed from the ladies tee. One hole on Osprey Point, I was on the tee. My friends were back on the mens tee when the ranger comes up to them and says "what the hell is that guy doing playing from the reds?!?!" One of them says "shhhh, he's with the special olympics."

Friends, fiends, whatever! Anyway, they got there's 'cause I took all the cash as I was in the 70's at every course (until the Ocean Course that is!)

Years ago...I heard of Teddy Garrahan playing guys straight pool 100 no count. He had to run a 100 to be on the board. So if he missed the 100th ball, he had a zero score...He won 6 games in a row that day...pretty impressive.
