I guess I better chip in, having missed most of what's happened today.

First off, I'm sorry to see Jimbo get a ban. It's certainly not what I would've wanted.

Secondly, his initial post to me yesterday was pretty insulting, basically telling me I needed to take a 4th Grade reading class, inferring I was an idiot & of course the low post count bias. Yes, I did bite back with some remarks that I later apologised for. I thought the best thing to do was hold out the olive branch & try again. I don't know if he'd have been happy with that because the ban warning had already gone up, although in one of his posts it definitely didn't look like he would've.

I just feel disappointed in all this. I'm not happy to see him go at all, but he didn't help himself one bit.

To many people around here wear their heart on their sleeve. To me Jimbo
is just a funny informative guy. I like to chat or pm him he always has the answer. Sometimes I would think I was provoking him but I really knew better because Jimbo is 10 times smarter than myself. I lurked here for about a year an ahalf. when I would come online I would always look for the JIMBO. Surely this is not the end of Jimbo. I have never cried for a moderators help to get someone off me nor do I ever intent to. I would rather see a CRY BABY banned. Bring back Jimbo!!!!!!!!!

I guess I am but a younger version of you then, I snooped around long before posting, and one of the names I would always look for for information was JIMBO, the funny thing is that every one of the other names that I would look for when searching for good information have all spoken up in defence of Jim, I have to agree with Hal 100%...

The most respectful members of this board are coming forward in defense of Jimbo. Cueaddicts, Tate, Jazz, X Breaker, etc. They're the ones that "run" this board. Their knowledge keeps this board afloat.

...although I understand that my opinion doesn't matter much, I'm just a young pool player trying to learn a game that I have quickly grown to love. Knowledge drew me to this forum, and I thank all those who share what they know, like Jim DOES!

Mr. Wilson,
I applaud you for changing a life ban to only three months for JimBo, you obviously care and listen to the opinions from the members here, and it is very much appreciated.
I believe most members here who plead for JimBo share my sentiment that we appreciate your not banning JimBo for life, and we would like to see him back as soon as possible.
Thank you.:)

That's how online forums are...you get into fights, sometimes you move past it and sometimes you don't. Sometimes, you end up getting to know the poster and respecting them for their knowledge and attitude.

Jimbo once called me the dimmest lightbulb on a christmas tree!

I also called someone an assclown in a thread (not duke, lol), and last month we shot pool together. AZB is a dynamic place, and most people don't take it too seriously.

I just want to make one thing very clear. I hope that nobody here confuses the character Jimbo with the man, Jim. Jim is a knowledgeable, likeable, respectable person. He is known in the cue collecting world and has really assumed a leadership role in that regard. He knows a ton and he also knows who knows what.

I just ask you to temper your opinion of Jim and not confuse or mistake the poster Jimbo for the real man, Jim. There is no comparison. What you are seeing is a devilish character Jim invented who masks a kind, generous, sensitive, and thoughtful human being.

You have to read Jimbo the right way to understand his posts. Is he sarcastic? God yes. Does he screw around with people and busts balls? Of course. Is he mean? Absolutely not. At least, not in real life. He is just sensitive to criticism, innuendo, and maybe people who maybe haven't paid their dues or earned their keep yet. He's just a little...emotional, for lack of a better word and doesn't suffer fools very well.

Jimbo the poster is still an enigma to me, while the real Jim is not. Trust me on this. None of us is perfect. My guess is he's out of here.

Chris

Excellent post Chris. JimBo will vehemently defend his position. His intelligence, knowledge of the cue collecting/building world, and his ability to read a post and then verbalize an opinon puts off some people. Some people come on here with inflated ego's and JimBo is real quick to put them in their place.

I only wish I had 1/2 the knowledge he does about cues. I believe he influenced everyone on this board in how they look at cues and cuemakers with his Cue design Theft arguement.

We've seen alot more offensive action by other posters on here, from racial slurs to being anti-semite and those folks go on posting. Yet someone who has been a quality contributor to the forum for nearly 4 years gets banned because he would not apologize to someone for saying they need to take 4th grade reading comprehension, this is ridiculous.

I've been a member here for a long time and seen some great people with a lot of knowledge get banned (DM), and the board has been worse off for it. It's not, and never will be, my decision on who gets banned and who doesn't, but the rules need to be the same for everyone.

Jim

Wow.....this sucks.

I liked Jimbo! He reminded me of myself in REAL life...LOL. It's pretty ridiculous to think that typing away at some keys on an internet forum and having a conversation (no matter the content) with another member of that forum could affect someone in such a way. One has to realize that its not "just a ban" -- this encroaches on the daily personal choice of members like Jimbo to take the time out of their lives to post on here -- its kinda screwed up to mess with someone's next 3 months like that. Not to mention that you're screwing with mine as you deprive me of his expertise for the next 3 months!

How can it be that the repercussions for "stepping out of line" on these online forums can be more severe than in the real world? All of a sudden, the fact that we sit behind computer screens and type away engaged in conversation with people who's faces and names we don't really know...we, all of a sudden, need some sort of "protection" from these "strangers" ???

I'll never forget one time, years ago, I was in an AOL chatroom: "Horses." I was bored. It was basically just a room where people who loved horses talked about how much they loved horses. Whatever. In any case, I started to (all in good fun, I might add), ask about glue....you get the picture...

Didn't do it much or for too long, but boy, did they go nuts! It didn't take too much, really...lol. Consequently, got banned from chatrooms, and AOL ceased to be my service provider that very day. It's that sort of overwhelming sensitivity that irks me on a daily basis...weakness of the worst kind, and of which I absolutely despise on account of it being totally unnecessary. And while some comments on this forum, such as those made by Jimbo earlier in the thread, tend to be more explicit and direct, the same rule applies. People sometimes just don't think rationally enough -- the product of a lack of a proper education and a sheltered upbringing, I suppose....

What a waste.

Hal said he wasn't a heavy drinker, but I'm going to have to call him on this one....He stated in another thread he weighed in at 280....

This thread is growing faster than I can read it, but I've only got one thing more to say here, and then it's back to the shadows ...... Eggnog isn't dead ..... it just smells funny. Boones Farm has no alcohol content that would require a mixer.

I've made my decision.
And it is not a good one.

Simple, common courtesy will suffice.
And that stoped after page two of this thread. Why didn't you pull the plug then?

Mr. Wilson said:
Just don't claim that if you've been asked to stop ( often many, many times ) that it is unfair.
Mr. Wilson,
If you are going to be a moderator then start moderating. This thread started going down hill after page two but YOU allowed it to continue instead of pulling the plug. Then after 20 pages of name calling and egg nog recipies you decide to step in and jump on one easy target. This type of moderating is not helping AZ become a better place and is not found on any other forum, pool or otherwise, that I visit. When a thread gets off topic and or the name calling starts then it should be pulled or locked. No questions and no warnings. You can't step in after a thread has gotten out of hand. It is too late at that point. Once people understand that it won't be tolerated it will stop.

Any forum is bound to attract some trouble makers and AZ is no exception but I don't think that Jimbo is in that category. For that matter neither were DM and RudeDog. They were easy targets because they spoke their minds and even though it was not popular it was generally the truth.

If my tone seems harsh that is because it is. I like AZ and would like to contribute more but I refuse to jump in a thread knowing it might become a train wreck. There are many fine cuemakers and pro players that are members here that either participate rarely or not at all for that very same reason. They make a post, the nits attack and by the time something is done it is too late. It's time to fix the problem, not just take the easy way out.

If this thread was locked a long time ago when things started to get personal and out of hand, no one would have been banned. :(

Heath <---- Pround to say this was my first and only post in this abomination of a thread.

I'll weigh in on Jimbo...

I don't know Jimbo...probably because I'm not much of a cue addict...

I did run a pool room for almost ten years...and for the life of me I can't find an offense Jimbo committed that would convince me that...if we were live in my poolroom...that I would bar him for three months...

Jimbo is a regular...and not a regular trouble maker...and has good people standing up for him...seems to be the type that would be a good customer...playing pool and contributing to the atmosphere...maybe helping people...including me...with their equipment...I might pop off on him for being rude to the proprietor and tell him to take a hike for the weekend...

So my two cents is an appeal to Mr. Wilson to reduce the ban to end on Jan. 1...call it a clean slate. Mr. Wilson has shown reasonableness by reducing the ban to three months...here is a plea to end the ban with the New Year...Peace...Mike

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!

There are two points that keep presenting themself throughout this.

The first, how many of you would make these arguments at work? If you saw a friend being warned for his activity and the same friend refused to cooperate in any way, shape or form.....he'd of course be fired.

So, my question isn't why the friend got fired but why would ( or wouldn't ) you make a scene just like is being made here?

Second, People say that he's much more civil in person.
I know nobody is going to like this, but there is another internet "personality" who is supposedly a nice guy in person. Depending on who you ask, FL is everything to everyone from cradle to grave. Whatever he has to offer is overshadowed by the negative.

Jekyl & Hyde doesn't work for me.

The bigger problem in all of this wasn't what he was asked to apologise for, but the "screw you" attitude when asked to stop.

"What bothers me is idiots who have been members here for less then a year"

Chilli deserved an apology for this remark.

Rather than make any amend, he chose the ban.

One more point. Chilli was NOT the person who brought this complaint to me. Other concerned parties reported this.
