THAT TOURNAMENT IS A JOKE !!!

HELL , ANY LEAGUE PLAYER CAN WIN A RACE TO 5 ALTERNATE BREAK AGAINST A PRO .

Interesting...

No holds barred, I'm easy going and not easily offended. I want you guys to be honest. I want to project a positive attitude and be an ambassador (for lack of a better term) for the game. Honest answers will help me understand how you the fans and sponsor's see me. Being a top ranked pro, it's important to know how you're percieved if you sincerely want to project a good image of the game to the public. Without you, the fans of pool, I wouldn't be what I am or where I am today. Thanks for all your support.

NOW, C'MON & LET ME HAVE IT! :)

Capital letters usually mean you are yelling... for one who claims to be not easily offended, somebody found your weak spot...lol...

Ok, I'm lost.... I took it as enthusiasm. I'm not blonde, but I'm not getting it. It was his first post, how was he offended & what was his weak spot?  Or did I just misunderstand your post? ;)

*****update, I missed Shawn's response to "stallion" and thought JJ was posting in reference to Shawn's 1st post since that's what he quoted*****

Guess it was a blonde moment. :p

Shawn, I agree with you. In a race to 5 with alternate break, it is a crapshoot and, in my opinion, especially as it pertains to 9-ball. Most definitely, luck is a determining factor, and it comes down to the rolls.

I am glad that you got the opportunity to play in the WPC. It must have been a great experience for you, aside from the pool, to check out Taiwan and all of its amenities.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Open. You've already won two back-to-back tournaments this year, and the Open is up for grabs. At least you don't have to travel thousands of miles and endure a 20-hour plane ride, AND the food will not make you sick.

To stay on topic of the thread, I don't think you should change anything. You are one of the NICEST players on that tour, and you are most definitely one of the good guys. I always enjoy running into you on the tournament trail, as long as you aren't on the opposite end of the table from my horse! :D

See you later, gator! :)

I heard that he plays tournaments okay, where there's pizza to eat and boxes to build towers, but he is weak when it comes to gambling. Do you know if this is true or not?

I know it's been rumored but I can't say for sure. :p

I was just referring to Shawns post right above my first post...where he seemed angered about the WPC tournament...

Sorry about confusing you!

LOL, it was my own stupidity. Instead of taking me to the 1st unread post, it took me to the last post, which was yours so I ASSumed there were none before yours.... Besides, it was 1st thing in the morning & I don't function too well at that time. It goes against my nature to be up that early unlesss I'm just going to bed. :p

Just my thoughts

Shawn ... Never had the pleasure to watch you play. Would love to, especially if you are as dangerous with the jump cue as people say you are.

I have noticed in tournaments you have participated in though, that people had high expectations of you, and many times you did not live up quite to what they thought you would do. That seems to represent to me that you have mental ups and downs, and perhaps make mental mistakes sometimes that sidetrack your overall performance. Being able to perform at peak efficiency is difficult for anyone, but at the level you are at, it is almost a requirement.

They talk about players having 'nerves of steel' sometimes, but in my 43 years of playing, I have evaluated some of those players as to having 'no nerves at all', that they really feel nothing at all inside, and that is why they can perform sometimes without getting nervous or jumpy. It just shows up sometimes in their personalities and mannerisms. If you play a lot of money, it can be a side effect from it.

I don't know what the 'Love Sponge' thing is, but it does not seem appropriate to me, and besides, even if it is, it should be much more sutle and personal.

Those are just my thoughts, would love to see you live or on TV sometime.

Best of luck in the future.

Not stupidity!

You...

I like your focus. I tried to distract you out of a 9ball at Planet Pool/ Sterling by hopping my chair over to get out of the way of a waitress. My timing was impeccable- you were just pulling the trigger. I apologized and you let it go. Still sorry!

Another thing I like about your game is that when you have a tough shot that can be made and get you back in line, you make it. This is something that I am working to integrate into my pool profile. F-it. you gotta make the ball

I also like the level of professionalism you carry: appearance, attitude, interaction- the whole package. Now, about that nickname...

What do I not like? I suppose that I am not the only one, but you play too good. Take it easy on us scrubs!! ;)

I have just one question though. Do you often have the urge to use english again while playing? I ask this because I saw Dixon play and tried to model my game after him (LOL), but then fell into the english trap. I either have to use mostly centerball, top, and bottom with no english or just go with mostly english. I can't flipflop. Just curious if you have experienced this delima?

WW
The english and the powerful stroke are always going to be there .

The better I play , the less I have to use it.

It's the pattern that dictates alot of english or center ball.
More angle=center ball
Closer to straight in=more english.

Center ball makes the pocket bigger. Sounds weird , let me explain.
With center ball you have to over cut every ball because the friction is going to throw the ball a little. When the cueball brushes the object ball it puts inside english on the object ball making the ball spin with the faceing of the pocket and spin down into the hole alot easier. Try it and tell me if it works for you.

I'm looking for input from you guys about my game. I would like to know what you percieve when you're watching me play? What do you like or dislike about me (how am I percieved) or my game.
This was posted in the Turning Stone tourney thread and I thought I'd bring it over here in case you miss it in the other thread...

I have to give mention to a player I have never seen play before but was impressive beyond belief and that is Shawn Putnam. This guy is a future world champ without a doubt. His only losses were to Efren on the hill and a streaking Jose Parica. Impressive doesn't even begin to describe his game and demeanor.

Koop

Looks like you aquired a new fan over the weekend. ;) Koop, I have to agree with you. Mr. Putnam's game is very smooth and precise. Here lately he's gone hill hill and/or beaten world champions like Ralf, Efren, Mika, & Marlon Manalo a few months ago when Marlon was on his hot streak....These are just the tourney's that I've been to the last few months or that have had good coverage on here. Off the table he's got a good sense of humor and usually has those around him laughing. Some of the personalities of pool players are just as colorful as the balls themselves. Shawn is definitely one of those people. :p

Hey Timberly,

My only regret is that I never felt an opportune time to go over and say hello to him. His game is better, much better than I imagined. My buddy Matt who came with me was really impressed as well.
The match against Efren, it really looked like Shawn was going to get him at 8-7 when he made one tiny mistake and that was all she wrote. My friend commented that one mistake may cost him the match and sadly it did.

Shawn, as far as feedback, keep doing what you're doing. You struck me as a class act on and off the felt. I'll take great pride if my world champion prediction comes true :-)

Regards,
Koop
