The problem, all too often in pool, is that the commentators aren't professional and they try to impart their street lingo into their commentary like they're talking to their buddies in the corner of the pool hall and want to sound 'cool'. That, coupled with the players that sit in the booth and try to cover the games (while having the typical somewhat arrogant mentality that many players have) and try to either predict every shot, or take every cheap opportunity to jump on a player when they miss and point out what they should have done. Just call the action, that's all that's necessary. You'll be a favorite in no time.
I agree with the folks that believe pool needs real commentators with a professional mentality at least, and not players in the booth. An occasional literate pro like Earl or someone as a guest for some color commentary is fine, but the sport needs professional announcing help. Even if it's a young professional starting out and not a big name. Anything but the 'hip' guys that try to do commentary that we currently have to suffer through. (An example of how horrible it is was the guy doing late night commentary on the Efren/Little Al one pocket game the other night at Hard Times...horrible, just horrible. Even went so far as to argue with people in chat that they should learn his own lingo, which made no sense to anyone listening.) I'd buy a whole lot more passes if things ever got better.
