Found this question from Hal Houle (screen name is anyway) to Johnny Archer. Thought it was funny/interesting so here it is:
"When players write to you, asking how to aim, your pat answer is to say that you get three feet back from the shot, then you shoot parallel lines. That is all hogwash. That is not how you aim. Why don't you level with these recreational players? You use the aiming system whereby you aim the center of the cue ball at the edge of the object ball for any and all shots. You know exactly what I am talking about. We both know about placing the cue tip either left or right of cue ball center, and you know why we do that. Get honest for a change. These recreational players are no threat. Tell them the truth." - Hal Houle
I really don't know why you keep writing about my aiming system. Everybody that is listening, IT IS MY AIMING SYSTEM. I hope this would relieve some pressure that you have. Thanks, Johnny
Im not positive but i think Archer system is nothing like Hals.

There are people here that are interested in learning Hal's aiming system, so I'm including the link to the ENTIRE 124 posts in that thread.......
Just to let everyone know that smorg was From the early days of RSB ,i took Hal to Tampa to meet doug and he thereafter became a HOULIGAN, along with John from jb cases, becky, joey and so on.
Still thinking oF you SMORG!
big Fish eaTING LITTLE FISH as doug would say
Hal could have been mistaken, that's for sure. But if I get Johnny in the commentary booth, he will be obligated by contract to give up the goodies to JoeyA.
Secondly, if Johnny doesn't pivot, air or land, then he's never drank the kool-aid. :nono:

Joey is that little yellow man giving me the bird? LoL...
Where is the link??
That's how I read it, but it could be an IMPOSTER using Hals' name...
Often, things like that are in the eye of the beholder.

So lets say youre a CTE guy and you do the thing you do and you make your pivot and now youre on target. What in the world do you do if you have use English and stroke the ball?
I just cant imagine it being any simpler than knowing the object ball contact point and aiming line and then making a simple thick or thin adjustment from what you know the cue ball is going to do.
I know you CTE guys cant possibly be just Center Ball players.
So is there a pivot and now there is an allowance?
I have searched and looked through the previous threads on this forum. 1000s of posts read, one big headache later and still can't find any definitive answers.
Is this basically having a singular constant sighting line (centre to edge) while the cue line is different from the sight line in order to bring a consistent shot making picture for the brain to memorise more easily (along with other benefits)?
I believe the allowance is made during the original lineup. So, if you want outside English on the resultant shot, you align slightly outside on both the Center Ball and also to the closest point to the Object ball.
Seems to be working so far, but I have just started modifying.
If you normally use the edge of your ferule for aiming, then offsetting by 1/2 ferule tip will end up with a shot after pivot that you recognize.
CTE forces players to get the eyes in the correct position. This is why it works. The players that don't seem to think it works don't really know how to apply it completely on every shot.
If you don't do it right it will not get the eyes in the right position.
The reason we miss shots and get down on a shot and it doesn't look good is because the non dominant eye is usually partly in the position that would make that eye the dominant eye.
This is just the way it is. It would be meaningless to try to explain it here because nobody would know even what I'm talking about but that is the whole problem.
That's it............
