Cue ball spin record?

Fake... and I've never said that about a video before.

Look at the guy... he doesn't even twitch for the whole "spinning" time.

Neat trick with Photoshop / MovieMaker etc.

For fun

Hello,

I just got a link to this video and thought I'll share it with you. I am interested in what you have to say about it. I have my own opinion but I'd like to hear yours first.
My take on it is that it was intended as entertainment. I think it had to be "tongue-in-cheek" fior this guy to present this as a world record. I was entertained, that's all.

Given the Oyster's history, I don't think it was intended to be tongue in cheek, IMO. He probably actually meant to fool people, just as he has tried to fool people into believing that Landon Shuffet is associated with his pool school, even going to the extent of impersonating Landon on at least one billiard message board.

Maybe the Oyster can comment on here when he gets back from his 1-year ban from AZ.

I tested this at home during luch..... I took a cue ball and put it on a counter top (sprayed with silicon) and it spun for over a minute... I didn't need a cue stick or an object ball.

Do I have the world record now? (still processing the video for youtube publication)

I've seen 45 seconds. It was with a carom ball on Granito M cloth. This was about 1980.

In 1966 Rene Vingerhoedt was in the SF Bay Area doing exhibitions at an invitational tournament. He came over to the Student Union to do an exhibition. The table was a National with slower cloth than the current Simonis -- think rug. He first did his "flat" shots using a regular cue. When it came time to do his masse shots, he put the cue ball a quarter-inch from the object ball, said "Spanish Dance," and shot the cue ball straight at the object ball with extreme side. The sound was like a gun going off. The cue ball sat in place, having moved only a couple of inches from where it started, and spun. It also wiggled due to the fact that it was ivory and a little unbalanced. And it spun and wiggled. Vingerhoedt took apart his regular cue and put it back in his case. He got out his masse cue and put it together. He came back to the table and the ball was still spinning and wiggling. I suspect that it was spinning for a lot longer than either of the cases posted from youtube.

There is no world record for making the ball spin, and if there were, I doubt that either of the people in the videos would hold it.

I think it's fake, too but this one looks pretty convincing:

i agree this one looks more legit, the first one is questionable-but fun to watch.

i remember the story of I poker player betting a guy he could drive a golf ball a mile, so they be something like $100,000, the deal was anywhere in the world, so they went up to the ice fields(or what ever they are called) in the north pole, he hit the ball and it skipped across the ice and just kept going for ever,

My point is that the conditions are everything, no friction under a golf ball it will keep going on and on, same for spinning a CB a great stroke and no friction or minimal friction its gonna spin for along time, on a polished marbel surface with a silicon lubricant of some sort the CB could easily spin for 2 minutes.

Yeah well...Don't fall for this one either...If someone bets you that you can hit a drive and then they hit a drive and you won't be able to hit your second drive past thier first drive...Don't let your ego take the bet...;)

I have seen people hit a bad break shot and the CB spin for ever. One guy switched to his shooting cue, looked at the layout, got down to shoot and said the CB was still spinning. Sure enough it was. I didn't time it, but it seemed like more than 25 seconds. I am guessing on prime conditions a person should be able to hit 30+ sec.

I'm unsure of the real reason for removing that video. but I think it's just because most of the ppl said that its fake. That was my guess, but he then sent me a msg in youtube with a website, then his name was actually there, I clicked on it and he has few videos of stuff he does. if you're at work and got spare time, or interested, take a look.

Go To www.billiardinstruction.com .

Click on Australian Oyster. Thats his name. then you will see his picture. he actually doesn't wear a shoes for some reason :P
